Guardian's 50 best TV dramas

How the hell can Coronation Street be above Band of Brothers.

Fail list is fail.

THIS.

Ans seriously, 24 that low? I laughed out loud.

Even Burn Notice or Dexter aren't on the list, they're possibly occupy slots in the top10.....

Normally when something is so highly praised (like the Wire) there's an inevitable backlash, at which point people start to vastly underate it (like in this list) in order to make up for all the overating and hype it's garnered.

I thought The Wire would be immune to this, because even people who haven't seen it and get bored of everyone banging on about how brilliant it is end up watching it and concedeing it's brilliance.

As a Sci Fi nerd, I've have liked to see X-File, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy etc a bit higher, maybe even include Serenity. The Guardian were always bound to under rate 24 because of it's reactionary politics, and in all fairness it's been a bit pants since season 4.

Yup, I'm another Wire fan and I suspect that this is just the Guardian ****stirring to get some traffic on their webs*ite.

That is the trouble with "best of" lists, one mans meat is another man's poison. I take them with a pinch of salt.

While this is true, I'd also disagree with almost every alternative choice being put forward. I mean: Star Trek? Seriously? Dexter? Fun, but hardly great TV. Serenity? Far too deeply flawed to make it.

I'd disagree with the order of the original list (I'd put West Wing top for instance), but in general most of the top forty at least were pretty sound.

List fail. 24 too far down. Soaps on the list that shouldn't exist. Relatively unknown TV shows that, in all fairness, suck.
