Play TV any good?

With a PS3 now in the house, is it worth getting the Play TV box? Have a cheap freeview box at the moment, so was looking at getting this to replace it.

Anyone use one? Opinions etc?

I have looked at some reviews but all seem to be when it first came out, not the current firmware/version

I think it's basically Freeview+ but for your PS3. It's probably a funky little gadget to have but for me it's not worth it. I've got a Sky Box in my room so whenever I want to watch digital TV I just turn from the PS3 onto Sky. Simples.

Ah fair enough, I dont have Sky or Freesat so only digital is from the little crappy silver box

Probably worth you getting it then. I know you can record programs from Freeview so it might be handy for you. I'd get it myself but like I said it's a little bit pointless having it in my room.

It's an excellent freeview pvr, definitely worth a buy, but get a Bluetooth Sony remote as well, it's super handy.

Yeah I love it myself. Only problem that I have is that of course you have to wait for ps3 to load up then for play tv to load up before you can watch tv and my 60gb ps3 aint silent these days lol.

Still I can pause and record tv which is ace

Wouldn't want to pay full RRP for it though

You can get it for £30 in supermarkets, not checked for online prices.

Well I will have a hunt to see what I can find, as it would appear my freeview box has died, I wonder if it read this thread lol

£30 is the price I saw it at too. Check the Rainforest place, not sure if OcUK sell them so I won't name names.

It's well worth the cheaper price it can be had for now. I've got a Slim so it's not so noisy (certainly not when I have the surround on) and I use it to record a lot of the shows I would miss.

I only have Freeview (and Freesat but no dish) so it's great for the recordings. It also has a fantastic UI on it that, as far as I can see, is only missing the option for Series Link and timers so it auto switches to programmes. It's just a shame you have to wait for the PS3 to boot, then boot PlayTV and then actually have a console powered just to watch telly.

It's excellent if you don't already have a PVR. Seems to make the most of the signal we have compared to the built in DVB in my Samsung TV.

The only reason I'd buy a standalone now is because the PS3 fans are annoying at night in this tiny room.

Probable a silly question, but could I use it to output tv to my monitor (which I use for the ps3) ?

You can even use it on your PC, with no PS3 at all.

Need the drivers though. I posted a guide thread on here somewhere.

If you've got Sky+ or a PVR already it's not worth it.

If you haven't it's definately worth it.

A great freeview box, that keeps getting better with updates. No matter what model of freeview box you use, its all about how good a reception you can get. Something to keep in mind for ppl thinking about getting one.
