I'd be taking it back, shouldn't be happening on a new kettle. What sort of water area are you in? We use a stove kettle and don't get anything like that.

I thought it might be from the tap water but I tried it with bottled water and it's still the same.

I'll be taking it back.

what bottle water, bottle water does not mean it is mineral free. In fact most pride themselves on their mineral content.

Are you serious? If so, you shouldn't be around boiling water, I suggest you get a tea's made and have an adult set it for you before bed time.

Anyway, its going to be limescale, which comes from minerals in the water.
Tastes disgusting, but not harmful.

We have bottled water at work for the kettle, as the alternative is nutritious H2O from our lead pipes. The kettle is literally caked in the stuff, and theres always little bits at the bottom of my cup

To rule out limescale, boil some distilled water.
