You seem to be pointing out your perceived flaws in peoples suggestions without offering any solutions of your own....... wait a minute....... OMFG, you not my wife are you.
It would also be interesting to see you information on the large amount of yob culture, of the same scale as the UK, in either of these two countries.
I have many times.
Lack of things for kids to do. Need more voluntary based stuff.
Lets see the evidence that national service has stopped the yob culture.
Just because they have NS and low yob culture does not mean the two are linked.
During the Falkland Islands conflict I lived in Canada and was under the age but at that time England did still have a national service scheme in place and I could have been called upon to serve then if I were older.

Great. Sorry but I don't seem to be able to find them after reading throught all the posts. I would apprechiate it if you would be so kind as to give a couple of links.
change in criminal law, change in government hand outs. Problems need tackling from a much earlier age and society needs pressure to fend for themselfs and not look at government to wipe their rears.
What?!
National Service ended in 1960 in the UK, with those drafted in 1960 being discharged in 1963.
edirt: beaten to it ^^^![]()
They should have mandatory national services to get the stupid chavs of the streets.
Well obviously the NS would only apply to the youth - the criteria for compulsory NS would only apply to those without university qualifications or little little job history or specifically target chavs. It wouldnt be forced on everyone if the right criteria is in place.
Sorry I should have been more clear in defining the criteria for NS - people who are working or apprentices would be exempt.
England didn't have national service at the time of the Falklands War. The last intake of National Service was 1960.

Wait...
If it didn't involve killing people, or training to kill people, or making weapons to kill people, or developing technologies to kill people, or providing some sort of assistance to people killing people...
...would it still be national service?
Seriously, I couldn't live with myself if I felt my actions were responsible for the death of anyone. I just don't have it in me :/
As I have said many other times, but which people find it convenient to ignore... Other countries offer many types of National Service such as ambulance work, nursing, community work, etc.
