I know absolutely nothing about car tyres and I need a set of new ones for my front wheels. The car is a 53 reg 1.6 astra with 15" alloys. I don't want anything fancy just some good all round tyres that aren't too pricey. Anyone got any suggestions?
There seems to be nothing out there that can help people choose tyres if they know nothing about them other than going down to kwik fit and getting ripped off...

what size are they?

my generic recommendation for an all round tyre is lumho ku31. ive had them on a few cars now and i think the sun shines out of their backsides

Best advice is to shop around. Also you want something mid range cause basically you get what you pay for. Cheap and cheerful isnt really the way.

I have a Yaris 195/55/15 tyres and I needed 2 for the front. I went to one place and they said £180 for Perelli P6000s then went somewhere else and they said £110. I went back to the other place and told them and they dropped it to £105. I then went to the place next door said if you can match it then I'll let you do it. They said fine. So I got 2 P6000s for £105 fitted.

Sad thing is, you still ended up with P6000s ;)

Handing over actual money in exchange for P6000's, sorry to hear that. I thought that car was supposed to be sporty, surely you have since noticed the tyres completely suck?

I am getting 4 Toyo T1-R from Camskill for £130 delivered (195/50/15) Local place charging £30 to fit all 4.

Toyos are rubbish IMO the P6000s are better by miles. Ive had nearly every make of tyres on my cars and P6000s have been the best.

P6000's are so bad that i, who has yet to ever notice the difference between any other tyres ever fitted (other than noise) even noticed how awful they were. I even had to drive extra carefully in the wet due to them on a large RWD saloon.

Probably the best out of Nexen, Wan Li, Fate-O, Triangle, Arrowspeed, Ling Long, Nang Kang and Ching Chong tyres I guess.

Agreed, sun shines out of every "angle" of them, wonderful tyres.

Low noise, good grip, good in the wet, even manage fine in snow

Not sure of the size, not gunna see my car till tonight so I'll check then.

The kumho's look like they've had some decent reviews... any ideas on prices to pay and where's best to buy them from?
