Upgrade z-2200 to z-5500?

Hi, I am a big gamer, and I was wondering whether it would be worth the upgrade, is 5.1 all its cracked up to be or is it just a gimmic. Also if I did get the system, where do you put the back speakers, close to you (i.e. on a wall just behind your head) or a long way back. Cheers for the info, Rob

Not sure how good/bad the z-2200 are but the z-5500 rock for games and surround.

They are seriously loud as well. When I mean loud, I managed to vibrate an ornament off a shelf 5m away and they weren't even on full volume!

As for the rear speakers I bought some cheap £15 speaker stands and I have them just behind my seat at head height. On the floor they are not as good.

Surround sound on z-5500 sounds great in movies and games and really does bring an extra dimension to them.

So if I mount the speakers about 1-2 foot behind be at head level it will be ok?

I have a xfi xtream gamer, should I use its analogue jacks or the optical?

Analogue for sure. If you use optical then you are relying on the speakers for DAC and all that jazz - definitely do that stuff with you lovely sound card.

This. And 1 to 2 foot behind at head height is perfect.
