7.0+ earthquake and Tsunami warning in Haiti

Poor people, diaster after disaster. Up too 100,000 people though? I remember the initial predicted deaths from 9/11 and Katrina been way off.

i only watched that channel 4 documentary about the asia tsunami the other week

it looked bloomin terrifying ! the wall of water coming towards them was just plain ridiculous.

I hope the Americans send a huge relief force to help (seeing as they are within a stones toss), heard they are mobilising a carrier and several warships and more from the east coast of the US to assist in the effort, plus the USAF are going to take over control at the airport to get Aid and relief in by Air and set up a functional Air traffic system...but theres even more overseas relief incoming in the next coming days.

The Royal Navy have ships in the Carribean nearly on a permament basis, no doubt they will be diverted to Haiti.

This could well turn out worse than The Boxing day Tsunami disaster me thinks:(

Such a catastrophe.

It amazes me to see such a poor country in Americas back yard. Some really shocking images on the news tonight and I do think America needs to get in there and help big time.

Can't remember who it was during the last "crisis" type event who complained about the USA sending in military units and a air craft carrier, but they can provide meals for a truly ridiculous number of people several times a day, have weeks of supplies on board, choppers, medical bays, its a mobile hospital, aid centre and kitchen in one nice slowly moving package.

The country is well and truly screwed, first hand from the simple devestation, but the infrastructure of so much has been destroyed and will take years, decades to rebuild in a country that has no money. Lots of government buildings are basically gone now, tax offices, banks, its like sending it back 100 years.

I honestly can't quite imagine living through such a horrible thing, and then having life changed completely afterwards aswell.

US commander said on BBC News that the carrier USS Carl Vinson is one of the ships on the way from Norfolk.

I don't think any criticism can be levelled at the US for its response.

Personally I say well done to the US and hope that the rest of the world that are able to and near to the area send all the support they can. This is horrible to watch on the news and I just feel helpless. Ill be donating some money but by the time anything gets done I think it will be too late.
