Hi there guys,

I hope you can help me.

I turned the Laptop on yesterday, got into Windows and went on the internet. Firefox had an update and once it had finished I got a BSOD.

I then turned it off and rebooted. I got to the Windows XP loading screen but as soon as that had finished but before I got into Windows I got the same BSOD message.

Now I cannot get into Windows and have no idea what could be wrong.

Here are the screen shots, does the code tell me (you) anything?

Please help me :(

I have an NEC Versa M370 laptop with the following specs:

Intel Core Duo Processor T7500 (2.20GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
2x2gb of RAM
Windows XP
Chipset: Intel GM965 Express

AFAIK, General Stops are quite hard to diagnose. If it's the same BSOD/problem each time it's likely a file or driver has corrupted.

Searching Microsoft for 0x0000007E gives these results

If you have the XP disc, you can boot from the CD (you may have to press F11 or something to bring up the BIOS boot menu) and perform a system repair?

ye i agree have you installed a new driver or program? when i installed zone alarm (witch i have done many of times after format) i got a blue screen so i went into safe mode and removed it and it booted up then. i just installed avg instead

Get into safe mode and get rid of firefox and any other changes you made that day, and if you can do a system restore in safe mode, do it.

If you can't do that I would use the xp disk and run a repair. If you still don't have any luck reset the bios, this sometimes helps, don't know why but it just does.

If none of these work report back here for some more ideas ;)

I usually find things with that stop code are to do with the hard drive, problems ranging from drivers or AHCI / ATA mode settings to Virii

First thing to do is boot from the Windows installation CD and get into recovery console, from there run a chkdsk.

I had a similar problem and a chkdsk solved it.

I know that wasn't aimed at me but I was unable to get in to safe mode when I had the problem.

Dam, Not fun then lol

Try what PiKe said, sounds like your best bet, though i never had luck with xp and recovery, windows 7 one saved my ass once tho lol.

ok, thats a million for the answers so far...

Firstly, I cannot get into safe mode as it BSOD's before that.

I can't believe that I cannot find my XP disc... I will keep look (frantically!)

Cheers :)

i loose one every time i get one always asking my mate for a new one. sound like a format needed it its blue screening on safe mode. byt before you do reset the bios like someone said. could be some config in bios thats making it do it. or if you can update the bios

sometimes there is an option on the post screen to recovery without the need for the disc.
it should already be on the hard drive as back up or recovery.

thanks again, I'll reset the bios now after I have checked if I can recover from post.

you are all wicked for giving me some help!! :)

OK...

I do have a "F11 boot to recovery partition" on my post. I then have two options, restore to day laptop was bought but with user data to remain or XP Windows restore.

The later produces a BSOD still... so I am currently trying to restore to factory default with user data remains but all programs wiped...fingers croseed!
