Hi all, would i benefit from upgrading from 4GB DDR3 (running at 1670mhz) to another 4GB of the same (2x2 modules).

Would i see any improvements adding the extra 4gb?

Cheers

As 4GB is sufficient for the tasks mentioned, I would say adding another 4GB will be a waste of cash. Wait until RAM prices drop, maybe then it could be a justified upgrade.

I have 6gb of Ram when using LR and my system always has around 2-3gb free. O/S Vista 64.

Change to Windows 7 (If you haven't already) instead of adding more ram.........(might see more gains in performance)

I had 4GB, then I added 4GB more. The benefit is that now I can turn off virtual memory without any problem. If you turn off virtual ram with 4gb only, your os might go upto 4gb and cause slowdown, but the chance is very slim with 8GB.

Yeh seeing as ram prices have doubled recently I'd hold out, if you are dealing with HUGE images in photoshop it would probably be worth it but if you are not running into any paging issues dont bother.

Whats the advantage of turning off vertual memory is it quicker to load pages? I have just added an Intel SSD so maybe it would benefit myself but not sure weather to get another 4GB memory? any advice what to do :)

Well the advantage is it not paging off to slow spindle harddrives, in your case you are not going be having that trouble with an SSD. Unless you are going over 4gig memory usage when you use the applications you usualy use I realllllly wouldn't bother.

I upgraded to 8GB and it does not offer any speed increases in Windows and general apps, I would only upgrade if your maxing out your current ammount of ram. I work with a lot of Virtual Instruments and Reaper, they can take up a lot of RAM when many instances are in use.

I upgraded when prices were cheap ( thats the only reason i did it) , can't tell the difference. If anything it went slower and had to do a bios update.
