4870x2 + a single 4870?

can this be done? I have a 4870x2 at the moment and would like to upgrade it without emptying my wallet! i have found 4870's on the net for around £100 so it seems a good choice!
My other spec is AMD 955 x4 3.6Ghz (oc'ed) my board supports crossfire and my psu is 700W ocz stealthxStream. is the upgrade worth an extra 100? would i see fps improvments? thanks

Thanks guys! im decideing weather to buy the cooler for my 4870x2 or a 4870 single -_- would i see THAT much performance increase with an extra 4870?

I watched a clip on youtube of an australian guy add a 4870 to hes 4870x2 and he claimed it improved hes benchmarking score significantly

IF you get one, make sure you get a 1GB 4870 and not a 512MB one.

Although, I would say it's not worth getting a 4870 for trifire, save it and put it towards getting a 5 series.

Lol! thats actully where i got the idea from! i wasnt sure if he was taking the P tho! I had never heard of doing it before wanted to ask some people on here!

Hmm true about the 5 series! i hear there a lot cooler than the 4870 too -_- the heat from the 4870x2 is madness!

Up until i got my 5970, i was running with a 4870x2 and 4870.

As you can see from this, the results are very very close to 2 4870x2's.

IMO, defo worthwhile doing.
