Nokia N900

Booo, spent last night converting n810 into an automated wifi enabled webcam, ie it can take and shove the image onto a website without user input, and now I want 900 so I can leave 810 looking out into my parking spot and keep track of it over the net... probably because I am sad and had ntohing else to do until I buy a powered usb hub to plug some toys into 810.

Well do agree, it is expensive, however it (price) is "ok" for a "normal" phone user, ie if you frequently go for £25-£35 monthly contracts. But for someone who is on payg, its a bit on the side of uncomfortable.

Did look at cheaper alternatives, but they either had a different market in their sights (handheld gaming) or just were worse then 810 spec wise.

Anyone done the update? I haven't been arsed to plug it into a laptop yet. Is it worth it or will it wait? The last one was good I must admit and the whole way the software updates is just class and really is the way forward imho.

Well it apparently fixes bugs - I havent really noticed the difference. I think the browser is better (again), portrait browsing is in 'beta' ie incomplete but still its nice to browse in portrait.

I hadn't encountered any bugs before the update to be honest so i'm not all that fussed. UI and web browser seem snappier but the portrait mode is a bit of a tease atm. Far from practical.

Have I been a timmeh and not backed up correctly or does it utomatically require EVERYTHING downloaded again? This could take some time....

It was just playing Nokia World of FAIL and not getting on with something or other and is now downloading...after nokia updater did appauling things, terrible things to my 900...Now I have some icons missing and I have wasted an hour and a half...grr.......

Edit: It does apppear the current Nokia software version didn't get on with several aps which were not re-installed, proably why it wouldn't upade Maemo wouldn't update properly. Quake3 was one and didn't work anyway...

Your rootfs is prob too full - be careful. Apps in the development section arent the best for the N900.

misread,

delete this post please.

I've just got Command and Conquer Red Alert running on mine :)

About to give Theme hospital a crack.

Meatball: There isn't a pc suite for the n900 as of yet, but things are being released as of now so there should be one within the next few weeks.

Playing around with the latest Fennec build on mine now (1.0.0), defintely shaping up to be a good rival to the built in browser, although it needs tweaking in some areas for this phone, like the way it has odd keyboard shortcuts that make it do unexpected things when you're trying to type.

its definately close to if not as fast as the built in browser now though.

Edit: ah... but it doesn't seem to offer any method for hovering the pointer (your finger) over a drop down menu, so i think I'll be sticking with the MicroB browser for now.
