i5 750 OEM

The i5 retail cooler has around 3 little 'pads' of thermal compound attached. I presume these spread out when heated up by the CPU? I never used the retail fan, instead I bought a Coolermaster Hyper TX3 for £13.

Using my TX3 with supplied TIM, temps idle ~28deg, load ~51deg on the hottest core (at stock). Replaced TIM with Arctic MX3, now idle ~26deg, load ~49deg.

I think the retail i5 cooler load temps are close to 60deg at stock, so I think the TX3 does a pretty good job for it's price - plus it's fairly small for a heatpipe, good for mATX!

I got an i5 build for chrsitmas and the intel stock cooler does have thermal paste on it, 3 tiny stripes. Got to say though the temperatures are great on my build at the minute with the stock cooler and i5 at default speeds. Temperature when idle is around 25 to 30 for all cores and at load around 55 to 60.

EDIT: kidscruff your right. The three stripes of thermal paste spread out once the CPU has heated up.

Just to clarify. Does the i5 'this week only' offer carrys on until Sunday? I'm working all tomorrow and therefore planning on ordering all my parts Sunday, and the CPU is likely to be an i5, in particular this i5 :)

And no, it definitely doesn't come with thermal paste pre applied. Only CPU coolers do.
