Thailand holidays?

Hey guys. Me and my friends are thinking about going on holiday around June and we think we've decided we want to go to Thailand. We'll all be 18 or 19 and have a budget of about £7-800 for 10 days (I think this is enough).

Was just looking for some advice really, has anyone stayed in Thailand towards the end of June (We're thinking Bangkok) I read that the rainy season starts towards the end of June in the north and then a month later around Bangkok, would we get away with going at the end of June?

Also, accomodation. I saw the Radisson (http://www.radisson.com/bangkokth)

It seems to be around £60 a night for three people which is good right? £20 a night PP with breakfast. Flights are going to be to Malayasia and then to Thailand from there and be around £300 in total. Giving us around £300 spending money for 10 days. Is this enough? I know its relatively cheap, but how cheap? Can increase our budgets if needed.

Just any advice would be greatful thanks.

P.s I've read Seek's guide and thats more geared to longer backpacking stays.

I would never do 10days in Bangkok. If I was with a group of lads I'd probably get the bus/train down to koh pho ngan then koh tao.

If you're wanting Thai, by all means fly to Bangkok but you're really limiting yourself to the countries beauty if you stay there. All the beaches, hidden getaways etc are all cheap enough to last on that budget.

Spend 3 days in Bangkok, go out to the real Thailand for 7 and then catch your flight back. Not that I've been there, but from what I hear.

+1 to Koh Tao you could easily waste away 10 days there just scuba diving and taking in the beaches.

It depends what you want really if you just want a holiday with the lads getting wrecked every night then you could get away with just bangkok and some of the surrounding areas.

defo get down to one of the islands koh phangan or koh tao

dont go all the way and just spend your time in bangkok

oh and dont stay in a posh hotel, go to kosarn road and stay in the D&D inn for about £8 a night

I understand the appeal of the beaches and such but isn't June the start of the rainy season? Basically holiday would involve going round Bangkok and finding all the random things that there is to do in the day, hopefully with some beach visits? And then off to the nightlife area at night. With obvious bar fines involved.

Depends what you want to do, culture, get lashed etc etc.

Kaosan roads is pretty much all tourists/ex pats and prostitutes. Its interesting though for the experience.

But I always cringe when you see a foreigner surround himself with "bar girls" .

I went at the end of June 2008 and the weather was great. We only had 2 days of rain (well one night in Bangkok of rain and 1 morning of rain in Koh Samui).

Have a bit of a go with the search function as there has been lots of good advice given recently about trips to Thailand.

If you are looking at least partly at the night life them I cannot emphasize strongly enough going a lot of internet searching regarding that side of Thailand. Forewarned is forearmed as they say. Read the horror stories, read the 'tricks of the trade', be prepared and never forget the reality of the situation... it is very easy to get influenced by the pretty girls, bright lights and drink.

If you are going in the monsoon season then prepaired to get very wet. When it rains it really rains and if you get caught in it then expect to end up looking like you have just stepped out of a bath with your clothes on unless you can find shelter very quickly. The rain is also usually cold and not as pleasent as you might imagine. In this sort of rain, unbrellas help keep everything nipple upwards dry only :D.

Remember to get some very basic thai under your belt. A few words go a long way. Remember Thai uses mascaline and feminine. Hello would be Sawadee Ka for females and sawadee krup for males. I'm pretty sure a lady behind the counter at a pharamsist along Sukhumvit Road would have a pretty good idea where the young farang (foreigner) guy got his Thai from when he tries to be charming and says sawadee ka to her ;). Watch out for ladies greeting with sawadee ha unless you like surprises . Ka, krup and ha does not guarentee the sex of the speaker though.

Thailand Q&A Forums seems to be a reasonible source of info and I didn't notice any abvious non-family friendly areas.

Stickmans site has lots of useful info including readers stories but it is not family friendly so have a Google. Searching for "sick buffalo" generally turns up a few good sources of info.

Be repectful, stay safe and enjoy. Thailand can open your eyes if you let it.

Cheers
RB

Flights to Malaysia then onto Thailand for £300 total? The lowest I've ever got it for is £475.

I've been in July, it lashed down a few days, but it really was hot rain, lovely lol.

If you're going to be sampling the nightlife of Bangkok and barfining, your budget needs to be a lot higher than a few hundred quid.

Definately sound advice

10 days in Bangkok is a waste of the time off work. Rainy season in Thailand isn't anything like as bad as you'd imagine. We went in August and the weather was lovely, we did get plenty of rain but it mainly came down for an hour or so in the afternoon. Up north it was worse as the rain could get stuck in the valleys Bangkok in the three days we were there it rained once for a couple of hours and in the islands I would say we had more dry days than wet allthough it was a little hazy quite a lot of the time, still comfortably in the 30's though!
