Hi all.

If you were travelling from Sheffield to stafford which way would go, I need arrive around 3.

Tomtom says m1 till j28 then off onto the a38 toward Derby before finally hitting a50 / a518. I've done that route before and congestion trouble.

Looking at the map, I think staying on the m1 till 24a would be better and then heading straight to the a50.

anyone here know the roads and which way would you go?

Just told tomtom to avoid the a38 and the route is 12 miles longer, but does only take 3 more minutes.

Last time I was in the M1 there were 50mph average cameras between the Derby turn and the A50 turn, I've travelled many times along the route your describing and have never had an issue, esp. around 3pm.

This! I do Stone to Hull quite a bit and always take this route.

There are roadworks south of J28 so you will be swapping possible congestion on the A38 for roadworks!

driving down i was going to go A38, but there was an accident on there - warnings were on the matrix signs on the m'way - so stayed on till j24.

traffic was fine, but 50mph average speed cameras like you say. Northbound looked worse, so coming back i went A38 and hit only a tiny bit of congestion.
