VXR Has gone. Did the deal today

are you serious?! your vectra didn't have these?
i didn't even know cars were still being produced without struts!
i presume there's a stick to hold up the bootlid too? :p

what was your average mpg in the vectra roughly?
i really think you're going to see 20mpg in this given the way you drive :p

It did have struts at the back ! just not at the front.

Average mpg in the vectra was about 23mpg

i'm still amazed by the lack of bonnet struts..
but moving on, if you averaged 23mpg in the vectra then you shouldn't be too upset by the volvo.
although parts and servicing aren't particularly cheap..
did it come from a main dealer? the ad has been deleted

I am fairly sure the volvo will be more expensive to run than the vauxhall?

Parts are very expensive on those, and there are less about.

he used CAP for vehicle valuations which said good condition booked in at £8000

Minus the few cosmetic things it will need doing (or he will get knocked down on) he will be looking at a markup of about £1500.

He certainly has a way with words ;)

Nice choice, my old man has always loved Volvo's so I've grown up to love them. The T5's are the best compromise between performance and sheer good fun.

Make sure you find yourself a decent independent to get it serviced it. The main dealers are shocking (cambelt on a V70 was £400 compared to the indie's £300).

gas struts that lift the bonnet instead of you having to lift it yourself and use the bar to hold it

Ive come from a cheap vauxhall so easily pleased !

I'm still in utter shock at this. My 10 year old Alfa has these and that was designed and built by Italians!

vauxhall went on a cost cutting mission with the VXR which saw them remove Gas struts on the bonnet, auto lights, auto wipers, footwell lighting, courtesy lighting in the doors, sunglasses holder, dual zone cilmate control, electrically folding wing mirrors lots of little things that came with the previous 3.2 GSI as standard.

Apparently they had the choice to either bump the VXR up for a masive price tag, or cut kit off to keep the price down. They opted for the latter

something they didnt do with the insignia VXR, which is why it retails for over 30 grand.

The main dealers are shocking (cambelt on a V70 was £400 compared to the indie's £300).
You are surprised that a local independent charges £100 less for a cambelt change than a Volvo main dealer... a guy whose most basic car is £15,000, and is selling vehicles with price tags towards £50,000... seriously? :p

Ive saved £300 a year on tax and tyres. Fuel will be about the same. Yes its a year older and with more miles, but it has to break a LOT to cost significantly more than the vectra. I dont mind if it costs £500 a year more, thats only £200 a year more minus the savings, and with a couple of grand in the bank to cushion us, we wont notice the increase.

The only issue you usually have with them is the suspension bushes. If they go it can cost a few hundred and mine would generally last 18-24 month.

Apart from that bullet proof. I sold my 52 plate with 60k miles on it for £2800.

I wonder if you can resist a remap on the S60. The results are pretty tempting - 325bhp/480nm.
