Basically... i have enough cash for a new graphics card :)

Iv'e got about £150 to spend, and iv'e narrowed it down to these 2.

Iv'e picked the 4890 because i'm not really interested in DX11 etc. etc, so i just want the most performance for the money.

I think for the price point.. these two cards are about the same?

I just want some oppinions on which one to get between them :)

Thanks in advance! :)

They are very close but the 4890 edges it in performance :)

There's a 5830 coming out on the 25th which may or may not be better but is probably worth waiting for :)

I've got a 4890 and it crushes the games I throw at it :)

+1 for a 4890, it will outperform the 260 in almost all scenario's, at times giving performance akin to that of a 275.

Plus it is probably cheaper overall, depending on which brand you opt for.

4890, no brainer.

Not a lot between them.

Personally would go for the 4890 - the Xfx for £133 looks good value.

Both are 'old' tech but price wise the 'new' tech are a fair bit more expensive for better performance (5850) - 5770 is nearest but is a bit slower than the 4890; direct x 11 etc though.

Okay cool :)

I'm not that interested in whether its "new" tech or not.. i mean a DX10 card is more then enough for now... Thier only one generation old :)

As has been said.. the new 5xxx series cards are way out of my price range Vs performance and i don't think there will be that many DX11 games that i would play, so it would be un necasary.

i have an AMD processor / chipset... would that make an difference to ATI / nVidia? I've heard that it does?

I like the GTX 260 S.O.C. (Super over clocked) and iv'e read good things about it.. but its £160 .. and it is better than a 4890 that i can get for £130?

It looks like AMD plans to release the ATI Radeon HD 5830 on January 25th, 2010. This new card will offer Radeon HD 4890-like performance, but at a lower price.
More precise specs (shader processors or clock frequencies), remain unknown. Radeon HD 5830 will use GDDR5 memory and offer performance on the line of AMD's Radeon HD 4890 card, but at a lower price.
We're guessing the design will be the same as the more powerful brothers, but even if the price hasn't been set it would be nice with a card from the Radeon HD 5800 series that costs less that $200.

:)

Yeh 5830 will probably be the best card for you as no doubt it will be more quiet, efficient, cooler and powerful for 'hopefully' a similar price.
