Desktop versions of Intel's next-gen processor architecture have made appearances in the top-end iMac models, but we shouldn't have a long wait for mobile versions to show up in Apple's portable line. A sales promotion for Intel retailers offers a chance to win a MacBook Pro featuring a Core i5 processor during the month of January, though such a machine does not currently exist in Apple's lineup.

Has anyone else noticed the picture in the promotion looks more like the older pre-Unibody MBP? I wonder if they have changed the physical design again (although I doubt it). It also seems to have the older touchpad. That pic is definitely wrong. Weird...

Thats exactly what i thought when I looked at it. Maybe they are changing the design and that was a design concept or something???

I think it's just a mistake by the people who knocked up the promotion picture. It is a render by the looks of it, rather than a photo. It looks too similar to the pre-Unibody. Although that doesn't explain why the screen bezel is black (like the newer one) rather than silver (like the old model)

Arse, I just got a MBP too :(

Still a great machine though :)

As I said in the other thread, if true it's a non story - there's going to be an updated macbook pro with an i5 processor, which anybody with half a brain knew had to be true anyway. Doesn't reveal when, which processor exactly or what they do about the graphics issue.

It has been said that processor design takes years, and if its anything like the aerospace industry Intel knows *exactly* what its customers want.

If apple wanted no on chip GPU then they would have designed one without it for them.

Personally its either going to be:
1. They disable the Intel GPU and use the 9400/9600 up-to-date equivalents.
2. They use the Intel GPU.

We will find out on the 27th im sure :D

But the whole point is that uncertainty is a far more important point than the absolutely obvious point that there will be an i5 Macbook pro - I'm just saying this 'leak' is meaningless. As I want a 13" macbook pro, I'd prefer a current one with 9400m over a faster processor with Intel graphics...

Intel have gone great lengths for apple to shrink the c2d for the macbook air I see no reason why they wouldn't do something for this.

I couldn't care less tbh!

I'll be getting the dual GPU chip mid 15" anyway!

If its integrated Intel + Ati 5650M or whatever it is I would be a happy bunny.

Longer battery life for sure with one discrete one integrated, and thats what im looking for in my new MBP. 3 hours from my current one, so around 6 from the new one :D

Given that Apple announces new products on Tuesdays in the US and usually sends new SKUs around about a week before, it looks slim for a new MBP line-up in the next week...

You'd be surprised... On another thread here it was pretty much a given that they would be released shortly, together with a tablet, Steve Job's liver scans etc., so there seem to be expectations of something immanent.

And the date was always the 26th/27th january as apple have an event scheduled for then apparently...so still a week and a half. And there's no guarantee they'll ship immediately either.
