I've been playing L4D for a few hours tonight and it has a score box at the top. After finishing I've notice the box has been faintly burnt onto my screen, an LCD Dell 2405.

Will this go away or am I screwed, anything to excercise the colours to help get rid?

:(

It will go away if you have something moving around on it a lot. However, it will happen again.

I'm saying this because it's happened 3 times with my Dell 2007 WFP. The start bar and menu bar or firefox were always visible on my desktop wallpaper. Dell have been awesome about it always and sent me a next day swap. I would ring them and tell them about it.

Can't really ring dell it's a 2005 model. I will try the solid white background tommorow when I'm not using it. Failing that I will put up with it until the monitor fails or I find another I like.

Danny I feel your pain, its crap when games break your hardware. For example, Fifa 10 broke my only controller today. It smashed it on the table and shattered the battery pack int a million pieces :(

doesnt happen on PC monitors but LCD HDTVs ohh yes it happens.

i have the perfect program that would almost completely 100% fix those burn marks :)
but it costs money.

https://www.pixelprotector.com/index.php

the software disk works wonders and im not just saying it cause i bought it and it does indeed work, also it can repair lost colors with some HDTVs over time they loose there original colour gradient or become more dull

this can restore HDTVs colours back to how you first bought them by exorcising all pixels on screen with deep colors. lol

well anyway i works.

the data on the disk is only about 300meg if i had a fast upload i would have uploaded it for you then again i could send you the screen wash video :) and you can just select repeat and leave the video playing fullscreen with brightness and contrast selected at 90% for 6+ hours then turn them down and its fixed :)

I think my screen is punishing me for spitting on it the other day. As Soulja and Wyrdo can tell you I threw a particularly large hissy fit in the pursuit of the achieve to get across the bridge in 3 minutes.

It resulted in a large barage of abuse which left spit on my monitor. I think the Dell has taken it personally.

Thanks Virus I will look into this program and give it a run, the white screen has got rid of it for now, but it's probably just a sign my monitor is showing it's age.

Yeah, you can burn LCD's although it takes hell of a lot longer when displaying a static image than a plasma. You sure its not retention rather than a burn ?

By the way, burning a white screen will shorten the life of your monitor / tv. 'Whitewashing' as its called when done on a TV can, if done for long enough sort it out, but will shorten the life of your hardware.

This happened to me on my 37" Sammy i feel for you as its annoying! i couldnt get mine to go away i got it to fade a little but it came back so i resorted to buying a samsung led... :D

Yeah it's retention not burn. I've had 5 years out of the screen so not too fussed about shortening the life. It's gone for now but I'm sure it's just a matter of when it happens again.

An excuse to buy a new 24 monitor as well. Now what to buy, bonus time in may :D

Danny

Ive heard that a typical old "snowy" untuned signal from a analogue tuner device might help if left on for a while.

Worth a try...

Thats worth a try as well when it comes back :)

Thanks.

I had noticed you hammering L4D2 yesterday!

Yeah 4 achieves to go, two of which I know I can get the expert ones will never happen unless I cheat.

Scavenge is very good fun in a team, with randoms you might as well not bother.

Of course with the rentention above I will limit the time I let that scoreboard stay on my screen next time :D Or switch to my tv.

Opportunity and incentive for a monitor upgrade ? :) A bigger and better zombie is awaiting you just around the next corner.
