5770 Vapor-X - How Quiet is it? Or other Solutions for quietness?

Hi,

This really is a question for the owners of the card.

But for my system I currently have a passive 4550 card, its pretty pathetic for gaming but I bought it as I found the ATI 4850 fan was far too loud and wanted to quieten my system down.

It also really was a stop gap as I have been waiting for the ATI HD5670 assuming it would come with a passive cooler, and be as fast as the HD4850.

It is disappointing to see it is not even as fast as the ATI4770 and does not come passively cooled (at the moment).

So my next option is the ATI 5770. (its so close to the price of the 5750 and both come Vapor-X I may as well get the 5770).

But I am concerned with the noise of the fan. Obviously it is not passive, but my Xigmatek S1283 CPU cooler is not passive and this is inaudible in my case, so much so I often think my PC is not turned on.

Is the Vapor-X quiet enough for noise freaks like me or is the fan noise doing simple things such as browsing the net and such have the fan audible.

While gaming I do not mind the fan audiable, it is just while doing things like Microsoft Office work on the PC or internet browsing I wish for it to be silent.

So can I therefore ask if the Vapor-X is not it, is there a better option I can go down, such as to buy a 5770 with stock coolers and a passive or low volume third party GPU cooler. If so which.

Thanks for any help offered

The vapor-X is a lot quiter than the 5770 stock fan.

You could also consider getting a passive 5750, while not quite as fast it would be silent.

Im sure there is passive 5770 dual slot card coming out might be of interest to you. There are pics of it about

I googled for this but got no hits.

Does anyone possibly have a link?

As this sounds very promising.

Another quick question as I am still contemplating the Vapor-X, can you manually slow down the Vapor-X fan for when you are just doing internet and desktop work to make it inaudible or is that inadvisable or impossible even?

You can do it with the stock fans so it's likely that you can do it with the Vapor-X fans aswell. However if you are going to set it very low then you run the risk of overheating the card if you forget to increase the speed when it's needed.

Ant, you are barking up the wrong tree son... It's all in the case. I have an Antec P183 and i can't hear hardly anything other than a soft wisper. I'm running a 4850 too.. Trust me I'm a noise freak also I can't stand playing my xbox 360 for that very reason. I was AMAZED at the sound dampening of my Antec. .. Also I've just ordered a Vapor-X 5770.. Not rec'd it yet, but i suspect i won't hear it all from within my case.

I have the Antec Solo case which was advertisded as having the noise dampening effect too.

As I say my Xigmatek CPU HS is silent, and (certain) case fans are silent too (just need to drop the volts down from 12v to 9v).

But I could definitely hear my HD4850.

I tried buying the T-Rad2 last year but the cooler with fans on was too big for my case.

So when you get the Vapor-X could you possibly post here your findings as I am leaning towards it over a passive 5750.

Yes you can alter the fan speeds from CCC to whatever you like. Remember these cards downclock while in 2d, desktop, to 157mhz and 300mhz. I like my cards cool so I run fanspeed of 30%(silent) and my temp is around 35c:)

I can't hear my 5770 vapor x in my P182.
My 4870 was the loudest part of my, and im a noise freak. So glad I replaced it.

Swapped all my fans in the case for Xilence apart from the 100mm CPU fan awhile ago. Now all I hear is a hum and its the CPU fan :( will have to change it

I think the vapor x fan runs a 40%, but can double check when I get home

Ok update thank to the misses

Details on the 5770 vapor x using GPU-Z

This is stock and my PC was just turned on

FAN SPEED
40% - 1566rpm
TEMP
32 c

Considering my 4870 ran at 80 c idle
