Noticed some people and specs saying that the 2209WA can run at 75hz at 1680x1050 - anyone know how? Reason I ask is that on my Windows 7 Machine I'm only able to get the usual 60hz!

Most of the time it's not a true 75hz. The interface chip will interlace down to 60hz, which is the speed most TFT's will refreash at.

Sorry to tell ya that.

This screen can actually do 75Hz without skipping frames, but it seems you'll have do a bit of fiddling with a custom timing setting to get it to work. If you've ever used you own modes in an custom x.config you'll know what it's all about.

Setup (with nVidia drivers. may have to use powerstrip or something similar to set up a custom mode with ATi, google it):

Confirmation that it is real, no frame skipping:

This and the new NEC 23" are the only non-120Hz that I've heard of that can do do non 60Hz-modes (in case of the NEC, up to 1920x1080@83Hz, but it takes DP due to bandwith needed. Have a search over at [H], should give you some pointers).

Do you have a 2209wa working at 75Hz? Been playing around with mine for a while and can't get it to run with a 4870x2 and XP despite using the "unlocked" driver. Powerstrip has the advanced timing options greyed out as well. :(

That driver is essentially just an EDID override, uses the registry keys found here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/display/edid_over.mspx

It replaces the spec the driver gets from the monitors DDC with a modified spec, with an added 1650x1050@76Hz mode with correct blanking (which is what's missing from the original DELL EDID). Works the same way it does when you add modelines to an X.config

Should be the most elegant way to get it working as it's driver independent and doesnt require any software.

Not quite sure what happened but since upgrading to Win 7 Pro, switching to a 76Hz driver and then switching back to default Win 7 driver after a reboot. 76Hz is now working as an option for me and my god is it like night and day 76Hz vs 60Hz. Very happy with my 2209wa but my next monitor will definitely be a 120Hz as it's incredible the difference.

Have one too and there is a big difference even in Windows - mouse feels smoother and more responsive.

Same as you. I'm waiting for a 120HZ IPS style 24-inch, that will be my next upgrade :)
