Not my film, taken from another forum a lot of people here also frequent, I'm just spreading the word... :)

Hi folks,

I made this short film to raise awareness of the Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund after the disasterous flooding we experienced a couple of months ago here. The photos were all shot by me with the 5D2 and the few movie clips were also done on the 5D2 (the movie clips are far from professional (all hand held) but help illustrate the point).

Please give me your thoughts and, most importantly, please also help spread the word about this film as this is for a very worthy cause. My local area is still devastated and needs all the help it can get.

Special thanks go out to Moby for allowing me to use his music free of charge.

I was probably stuck in that traffic jam :(

All that fuss about the snow last week - at least once that had mleted that was it, roads back to normal. Not the same for us who are and will still be suffering travel chaos for probably years to come.

Sorry but there's "real" disasters that need my donations before Cumbria at the moment.

All the troubles in the world and cumbria is campaigning to have their golf courses and tea gardens restored after a bit of a shower!

They can take a long walk off of a tall cliff.

Some small minded idiots on here, there really are. Do you scream at you televisions when you see an NSPCC advert or one for orphanded pandas just because there was an earthquake last week?

There's is no forming an orderly queue when asking for aid or support. How is being made homeless in Cumbria more fun than being made homeless in Haiti?

Window lickers....

If it makes it easier for you to understand, then think of it as a triage of sorts. We don't all have endless amounts of money to go donating, so we'd rather send it where it's most needed at the moment. For me that's a country where a disaster has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths and untold destruction. Nobody's saying that Cumbria isn't in need of help, but at the moment there's people in the world without food or medical supplies......not just a few bridges.

If you're so wealthy that you can donate to every cause in the world at the moment then well done. Maybe you'll get a place in the magazines alongside all the celebrities making a business opportunity out of all of this.

In the meantime you'd do well to avoid childish name calling when trying to construct an argument, as it just makes YOU look the idiot.

No your post implied it was not a worthy cause and another post actually implied it was insensitive to have started the thread. People have the right to donate to whichever cause they feel is worthy and they can't do that if they don't know about the cause.

My post was essentially stating that there is never a wrong time to ask for aid and the posts that were actually uncalled for in this thread were the ones judging whether it was a worthy cause or not.

I stand by what I wrote and your reply merely confirms my view of your first post.

I think the OP is justified to post this as there are many people who would rather donate money to people in the UK than places overseas.

If anyone feels that a disaster outside the UK deserves their money more than people in Cumbria then by all means they can give them as much as they want, it's their choice. At the end of the day people have different views and priorities.

Quite apart from the fact that there was a disaster that took place, many people have no concept of the long term damage that has been done to the region. A region that was devastated by foot and mouth, falsely inflated house prices preventing locals from staying and working in the area and now prolonged homelessness and closed businesses in the middle of a recession.

No that's not a real disaster at all is it....

That facetious comment rather deserves a dunking in the River Derwent.

Hundered of families have had there homes and possesions destroyed many will not have been able to get insurance on them in the first place. Shops and communities slowly being destroyed by lack of transport infrastructure with businesses likely to go under.

Charity begins at home!

Well, well... as you can tell by my user ID, I'm the creator of the film. I simply had to join this forum after reading some of the negative comments on here.

I have tried to spread the word about this on various forums and this is the only forum that has received it with such negativity.

"Sorry but there's "real" disasters that need my donations before Cumbria at the moment. "

I agree that the Haiti situation is on a different scale completely and deserves all the charitable assistance it can get. I fully understand that many people's priorities will be Haiti but I can't simply lie down and forget about my local area.

Yeah couldn't think of a worse time to show this film really.

Sorry about that, would you like me to scrap the film or show it later, perhaps next year?

This comment is why I signed up to this forum so here goes:

Although we lost a brave policeman who left a wife and young kids, there has not been mass death in Cumbria caused by the floods. There is no risk of disease, no looting, no lynch mobs, no rioting and no hunger. Haiti is on a different scale altogether.

The purpose of the film is not to divert money from other causes. Although we are not all dying by the thousand we are having serious problems. 1000s of acres of farmland are left unusable leaving animals with no food. Cemeteries have been washed away. Human remains of loved ones have been found on the edges of rivers. A 3 minute car journey to work now takes 2 hours. Children are setting off for school at 6:30am and getting back home at 5:30pm. Businesses are destroyed, the large companies can cope with rebuilding costs but the small family firms are struggling. Kid's unopened Christmas presents have been found in fields, washed away by the floodwater. Parts of the landscape have been changed forever. We have new rivers where roads and houses used to be. The list goes on and on...

I listed the link to the film on forums to help spread the word, not to mock the world's other troubles. The idea was to ask people to post the Youtube link on their Facebook pages and their own websites, not to ask for Golf Course repair or a new tea garden. If you can't help or don't wish to help then please hit the back button on your browser.

For the others on here who were kind enough to show support, the Youtube link is:

Welcome to the forums Jamie. Don't take the responses of a few as the general attitude of the forums. They really are a good place to hang out and an absolute wealth of information.

Sadly there are always people out there with holier than thou attitudes but generally they can be ignored without losing too much sleep. Alternatively you can point out the error of their ways but usually they are too blinkered to see it.

Don't make it you only post here, there's lots to see and do here :)

Thanks for the support BA. I am very busy with my work so future visits to this forum will be rare unfortunately. I just wanted to say my piece in response to the unjustified remarks above.

For yourself and those that are interested, I am pleased to announce that the film has today been officially accepted by the Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund to help publicise their work. This is fantastic news and makes my effort feel worthwhile.
