Anyone here use the JVC SU-DH1 or the Astro A40 Mix Amp?

If so are they any good and are there any alternatives?

Thanks.

So it really does do something with the sound then?

Currently I have to plug my Sennheiser HD555's into the monitor audio jack and sounds good but I cant help but thing im not getting the full range of sounds etc and I'm confused as to how the sound is converted as its going via hdmi to monitor and then my phones are plugged into monitor so how is the sound being reproduced... this makes me thing i could do with one of these amps but is it worth parting with £100. Guess these cheap home cinema systems dont support dolby headphone only seen A/V's at like £300 support this.

Got the Mixamp here with some 555's its AWESOME!!!! Sound positioning is so good feels like wall hacking :D Had an expensive stereo amp before and the difference is night and day. Actually hurt my head at first due to how 3D and "out of the head" the sound stage is...truly blew my mind,

Wait, so how does this work? And why is it so good?

It converts stereo via the optical cable into 5:1 in any stereo head set. You need to make sure the dolby setting on your xbox are set to 5:1 though. Plus it means you have a mix knob for chat and in game sounds

I've read that the Astro doesnt support DTS - is this a big deal?

Good thing about the astro is that it is USB powered, my PS3 only has 2 USB ports can docks be plugged into PS3's and work or do you need specificly designed for PS3 ones?

My Mrs will think I'm mad parting with £100 for this haha but just dont get it do they ;)

If I was forced to go back to using either a stereo amp or going back to an SD TV I'd give up my HD monitor as Dobly Headphone makes such a huge impact on my gaming. Having all that 3D info via sound is just incredible.

Its so good I can hear where bullets have been shot from and what angle with my eyes shut. Meaning you know where most people are without being anywhere near them. It gives a huge advantage but its the immersion that makes it so amazing and enjoyable. Its one of those things that the novetly just never wears off.

Expensive for £100 for what it is? (a plastic amp)....yes very
Worth it?....every penny!

Not for games. If you've got DTS only films you might have to watch them in stereo, but it's pretty rare for most stuff to not have a Dolby 5.1 track these days. :)

Any USB hub will work with the PS3. :)

I'm using the set that Astro make. Good sound quality, but I might be tempted to get a Senheiser pair eventually.

:)

From what I've heard they're very good. I thought I tried a pair once but they must have been turtle beach......in fact I think I said they were crap in a thread and you defended them. Sorry about that...I was wrong :D

I did think about getting some ad700-900's but there's really no need....I've had these 555's for 5 years now and they're awesome.

thanks for your input on on this all very helpful only problem is now you've made me want to go for it even more and see the last of my xmas pennies go out the window ah and there is so many games coming up oh what to do :)

Go for the AMP. The games will come and go but the AMP will provide enjoyment for all games for the life of your console.

Hehe. :p No problem.

I'm certainly pleased with them. :)

I've got to agree with this. regardless of the headphones you've got it's the amp that does the business. And for the price of a couple of games, you'll be massively increasing the enjoyment you get out of every game you play. :)

Is it more so the power the amp gives the headphones to drive them or the mixing side of things im guessing the answer is both.

having Dobly Headphone is where the magic's at. It just so happens that they are good at driving headphones as well. Stereo just feels completely flat and 2D in comparison.

My sound quality with my PS3 is Incredible.

Im using my Sen HD650`s with my Ps3 and my PC desktop Mic with my PS3 :)
via optical out on the ps3 into my PC sound card then routed though to my Headset...

Does this have a passthrough so if I wanted the sound to go to an amp (Z5400s) I could via optical, but when I want to use headphones with the 5.1 effect I could just plug in without any issues.

Im guessing no and Id have to move the optical cable coming out of the PS3...

ps3ud0
