I got a G25 for christmas and i have been playing through my Arcade Games with it and i am really enjoying it!

I own:

Dirt
Dirt 2
Grid
Need For Speed: Shift

Basically i want the very best racing sim to really put the wheel to the test.

I am looking for near perfect game play, good graphics and realism.

What is my best option?

I tried iRacing on a mates PC, he's got a G25 too. Very realistic sim and excellent feedback through the wheel. Isn't the cheapest game to get in to though, you have to pay a sub and most tracks and cars are only availible as paid DLC. If there's a free trial for it anywhere I'd highly recommend giving it a go

good graphics is a hard one to get, most true sim games are developed by small companies for a very small market and spend more time of racing/driving physics than the reflection of the headlights infront of you :D

The race 07 series..graphics are not to shabby and lots of add ons...good graphics, realism and perfect gameplay...not in one package i dont think. best graphics are dirt 2 and nfs shift..realism would be iRacing.

I must warn you, when you start playing an actual simulator you'll be skidding and dough nutting and wheel spinning and smashing the car into all sorts of things :)

But the biggest difference you'll notice is how slowely it SEEMS you have to go round corners, to get round them OK.

Good luck!

don't forget the panic of realising you hit the corner way to fast, putting the brake on, then realising that's not a good idea halfway round a bend :D then you get to watch FF in action :)

Richard Burns Rally - Probably the only decent rally sim on the PC.

Live for Speed - I like it, some don't. Great multiplayer, has a free demo, and we are expecting an overhaul of tyre physics some time soon, and a laser scanned version of Rockingham as well.

iRacing is excellent but it's not for casual racers by any means, you really need to be looking at simracing more as a sport than a pass time to get the most out of it. I loved iRacing but I didn't have the time to justify a running subscription and buying up all the content for it. I might have to review that situation now that Williams F1 has announced they'll be releasing their data and laser scanning their car into iRacing :)

Live for speed is probably the best pick up and play racing sim I've ever came across. Day or night you can find a good server with some good races. The physics are great and the cars drive really well. You need to install some texture mods to get it looking good but once it's done it's a really nice clean racing environment. the main downside is that the cars and tracks are mostly fictional, but that doesn't take anything away from the actual racing experience.

rFactor is good if you want a huge selection of cars to drive. The online racing is really fragmented due to the huge amount of mods and tracks available but if you join a racing community you can get a lot of good racing done in rFactor too.

GTR2, everyone should own this sim. It can be bought for a fiver or something and there's a lot of good mods and tracks available, still a lot of people online and leagues racing it.

So do you think GTR will be the best to ease me into sim racers?
GTR 2 has a rather good training section, it's where I went when I started sim racing. It will teach you what you need to know about getting a car round a track in the fastest manner. It can be had for about £3 from http://www.simraceway.com/. It comes free with a subscription (which can be cancelled as soon as you get your key). I would also highly recommend that website for online racing with rfactor.

It has thousands of mods which can be installed with one click in the browser, plus several modded servers (that will download the appropriate content when you join) that are also joined through the hub on the site, it's a nice little community with nice features (live video feeds of races, cash prises, human marshalls, one-click install, stats etc). It makes rfactor bearable, as the default game lobby doesn't make it easy to join a game unless you have already downloaded and installed the correct mods prior to launching the game (there is an unbelievable amount of modded content).

NFS shift can be fun....

As has been said in terms of getting somewhere close to the real thing iRacing is top of the tree, nothing out there offers the same level of simulation but you pay for the privilege and as has been said it's something you need to dedicate time to.
