is my new 5770 broke(arrived today)

I reckon his psu is fine, its a decent make, the card should not suck that much juice, besides I used to run my 260gtx on a 450w OCZ.

I'd be tempted to use a bigger PSU myself, but would agree that it should boot no problem on that PSU. If it was going to have power issues I'd expect it to be when it goes into 3D mode and starts really pulling power.

On what grounds do they refuse to RMA it?

If you believe it's a fault with the card then getting an RMA shouldn't be too difficult. You just have to know your rights.

I had a thread about this a while back on here.

I sent it back to them (OCUK) and they received it on a Saturday morning, it was on its way back to me by 10am that Saturday claiming they had tested it and it worked fine. Which is total rubbish but that's how it goes. I have tested it on the following setups

Asus P5K Pro - Intel E6600 Dual Core - 4 gig DDR2 - Zalman 600W PSU - locks
Foxconn ELA - Intel E6600 Dual Core - 4 gig DDR2 - Zalman 600W PSU - locks
Gigabyte MA770 - AMD Phenom II 955 3.16 gig - 4 Gig Corsair DD3 - Corsair 750W PSU - locks

Load up a game, turn on AA or AF, locks within minutes. I clearly got a duff card but I can't get it replaced so I am out the cost. This is going off topic but obviously in my experience the Sapphire 5770's are not to be trusted.

Ok so went to see my cousin he put it in his socket 945 think he said it was,, it fired up first time he loaned me a 750watt psu i've tried that aswell.
the onboard will work fine with the 5770 in the pci-e slot but if i plug the 6 pin power into the 5770 the comp won't post(so obviously a motherboard issue gr8 stuff £130 down the pan )
SO my options takes a loss and sell it on for less than i paid for it 2 days ago or spend £400 which i don't have at the mo getting a new mobo,cpu,ram........... Infinty FFS

ha ha ha i tried the same with my spec in my sig + the fans/fan controller i've got aswell.

recomended a 1046w PSU

i'm only on a 650w. it canne take the power captain :D

Peak load at 100% usage for your system came out at 584w. I set the CPU to 4200mhz, 1.45v (may be high/low) and added a load of fans, Blu-Ray drive, SSD, HDD etc.

@ OP - Did you get around to updating the BIOS?

waiting for an acceptance e-mail from the forum to use the usb method i've never flashed before and i'm pooping about it going horribly wrong my bios is 3.6 the next available is 3.8 but that was back from 2006 think i'm hitting a dead end. It says nowhere that this card might not be compatible with some systems/older systems it's actually almost had the hammer treatment earlier.

at least i know it works tho cause my cousin tried it for me..

any other ways of flashing i don't have floppy drive just usb and dvd drive

They will often have Windows based flash utilities but they're less reliable than using a bootable USB/Floppy/DVD.

yeah i did see that but seems pretty risky what i honestly don't get is my 4870 was pci-e 2.0 this 5770 is pci-e 2.0 so why won't it work in my system but it works in my cousins the only difference is that this 5770 is 1GB and my old 4870 was 512MB

I have to agree with UV there. The MSI liveupdate thingy is pretty good and has never screwed up a board when i have used it. It's about the only one that i would trust in Windows. Used it to flash my P45 Platinum when i got it late last year.

well i took the plunge and tried it the update worked but unfortunately the 5770 is still not working.

think we are at a dead end now. one last thing i'm trying is a driver that allowed support for the gtx 295 (in vein hope it changes something) i'll report back later.

P:S thanks for all the help by the way appreciate it

I couldn't see you saying you've tried it, but you did try clearing the CMOS?

Why?

Coz my 5970 wouldn't work either, I tried updating to latest BIOS and resetting settings in the BIOS screen would not work.

It wasn't until I took the battery out of the motherboard and at the same time did the pin-thing, and then next boot I get the #beeeeep# from the motherboard... happy (sort of) days since... :)

And I thought flashing a new BIOS would clear things up, but it clearly doesn't!

Good luck!

so ur saying take out the battery and hit my clear CMOS button then put the battery back in and try and boot up

Yeah, give that a go!

or just try removing the battery for a few minutes (some advise to leave it out for 2hrs+ !?)

It should clear the BIOS, and hope it works!!

Good luck!

took out battery cleared cmos did a capacitor drain still nothing.

i need to calm down before the hammer comes out the most annoying thing is i know it works on another system but not mine.......... GRRRRRR:mad::mad::mad::mad:
