uTorrent blocking all other internet traffic

5 Mbps down- and 0.2 Mbps upstream, that's not a very torrent-friendly connection. We probably shouldn't help you for that reason alone as all you can effectively do is leech :(

It's not really up to me, we can't get a better connection so I don't think that really qualifies me as shouldn't be helped. :P

I usually seed fully, unless the download is more than say 10gb because it can take months.

Thanks for all your help though, I've been tweaking everything and I'm now uploading at 10kbps, anything more than that and my internet access for the rest of the network gets really unstable.

I'm sorry about that comment, it wasn't intended to cause offense. It was meant to be tongue in cheek as I realise that is probably all your connection can muster :)

outbound connections is also somthing to monitor. lower that to a more realistic number, if you're max download connections is 20 and upload is 2 then you don't need it to be 500!

Ah no worries mate, thought that how you meant it so I went for a tongue sticking out reply.

Max download is 20, max upload is 5, max global is 100.

Seems to be the most stable settings now, I'm just slowly upping the upload speed again.

Your average user overlooks the settings we have been discussing but it really is quite important, not only for the speed you can get out of uTorrent but their impact on connectivity as a whole. Which is what we are investigating in this thread, non? :)

The parameters in my post at 02:27 are based on suggestions posted by the uTorrent mods and developers. They should be set according to your upload capacity, not download.

10 KB/sec upload for 5 peers? No.
100 global connections. No.
More than one or two active torrents. No.

Was about to post what NathanE did, can't believe so many people overlooked that!

Set it to 10 as a minimum. Lower than 10 and it can harm your download speeds.

Crappy UK upload speeds :(

Sorry should have said, I'm not on that computer at the moment, those settings were off the top of my head. :P

I'll try those settings out later. :D
