Relocating to bedford

Dunstable is utter **** too.

Oi !!

I live in Dunstable and its ok..Its nowhere near as bad as luton . The town is dying/died though and if yer into clubbing it sucks but as a town its ok . Lot less imigrants as well (hardly any)

The place of the A6 in luton is called Barton Hills .. Its ok there but there is a large council estate just behind it where all the Luton riots were . Know a few people there and its not a bad area but try and get as close to the a6 .

Persil

ok guys stop stalking me. born and raised in luton. barton hills to be exact. just up the road from sainsburys. its Really easy to get to bedford from there and is a nice place. just stay away from marsh farm.

Dunstable is just Luton without the junior terrorists.

Its never been the same since they renamed Ritzy's.

Haha Barton le clay is 5 mins down the road from me. Bedford is about 30mins drive from me and it's much better to be where I am than in bedford itself. I'm south, in a small village. :D

To be perfectly honest Bedford isn't that bad atall. Sure you have a few hoodys in the rougher parts but you get those everywhere. Bedford has the river ouse running through it which is beautiful in the summer and you are never more than 10 minutes away from a park or the countryside. You have priory marina and the country park and miles and miles of riverside to explore. Which is more than can be said for most places like Luton which only boasts a muddy sewerage outflow. There are some nice places around the town center like deparys avenue or the sought after castle road area. Prices are expensive (ish) there but it really is a lovely area to be and just a stones throw away from Russell park and the embankment.

To be fair, Bedford is dead cheap. I lived there for a year and paid £39 a week rent in a shared house. Bargain.

And local local Irish pub did a great breakfast - two sausage, two bacon, two fried eggs, four hash brown, tomato, fried bread and a pint of Guinness for a fiver.

But I'd never live there again. Hell hole.

even the birds fly upside down when going over Luton, as there is nothing better to **** on.

Good luck Neil! ;)

Haha, don't listen mate. Get yourself down here for a day or so and have a look for yourself. Visit a few estate agents and have a drive about the outskirts, see it for yourself. It's easy to **** a place off if you don't live there, I've lived here almost all my life and can say I actually love it. Sure I'll **** it off like the rest of them sometimes but the grass is always greener. It really is a nice place once you learn it's ins and outs.
P.S I'll stab any mo********er that says anything else derogatory about Bedford:D

Bleh, Bedford sucks.

  • The Cinema is awful
  • The town centre is useless unless your woman clothes shopping
  • The River walk is a 20min round trip for the nice bit, if you want to walk further in either direction expect to be mugged or knocked out on a low slung bridge.
  • No character to the place
  • Not cheap to buy a house as it's a commuter town (Bedford to London in 60mins)

Yer, I live in Bedford... :(

The cinema shows films, has seats and is relatively cheap, what more do you want ?

For mens clothes you have Maysons, Funky Junction, Debenhams, TK Max, Primark, several different tailors and plenty more that I've forgotten. If you really want choice then go to Milton Keynes, it takes 20 minutes to drive there.

The river takes far more than 20 minutes to get around and how many times have you been mugged may I ask ? Unless you look like a complete emo tool nobody will so much as say boo to you.

No character ? Castle mound is hundreds of years old and the site of fierce battles which are immortalised in history. John bunyan was born here. Oliver Cromwell hid out here. There are scores of Churches and buildings well over 500 years old. Theres box end, Kempston and the abbey at Elstow and scores more sites of interest. I can't believe you would say it has no character

As for house prices, you get what you pay for and everywhere in Britain has suffered recent hikes in prices, not just Bedford.

If you really are that miserable here and hate it so much I suggest you see a doctor for some anti-depressants or move out. It can't be healthy having so much loathing for a place you live in. Cheer up mate, it could be FAR worse.;)

Neil, btw what car do you drive ? Also if you fancy meeting for a pint I could talk you through anything you need to know about Bedford.

Cinema
Drive to MK and go to xscape for a much better time.

Town centre
It's not great but it isn't that bad. Enough shops for blokes plus the interchange retail park is only down the road in Kempston with the halfords retail park not far from teh bottom of the high street. Also Milton Keynes is 20mins away with its vast shopping centre.

River
How often do peole honestly go for river walks.... Really?

Character
Don't live in Bedford then, there are plenty of lovely villages around. Biddenham is lovely and bromham isn't bad too along with oakley. Definately consider Olney too.

Houses
Stupidly cheap (compared to London)

Trains
East midlands trains are 35mins to London St Pancras.

FYI the train isn't 60mins unless you ride on the first capital connect. They are slow but go every 10/15mins to London/Brighton, plus being the end of the line are great to jump on if a bit drunk. Wake up at Bedford with no chance of ending up anywhere else.

Bedford isn't the greatest on a night out, but always have a great time when I go out to the Rose followed by some TImeout or Pad action for after.

Would love to know where all the major haters live.

You work for the local council or something? :p

Cinema sucks because when I go to the cinema I want it to be an experience Bedford Cineworld is a knackered place with crap picture, drinks squirted up the screens and bust speakers, and rather the replace them they have just taken them out, stereo sound in a cinema in 2010? Seriously?!

As for Castle Mound it was just a pile of dirt with the remains of a Victorian ice cellar in it for most of my life, you'd only go up there to meet the druggies and homeless. Now they have spent a ton putting up a bit of stone wall around it and a little woodern top, then hilariously demolished one of the last open air in town car parks (a lot of people don't like multi story carparks) and built a bunch of flats and shops that they can't lease because nobody has any reason to go near them.

The River, you've got from Aspects to Bedford town bridge as a nice walk, any further down you've got the rotting concrete town hall and further down you've got a lovely building site before heading in to Kempston. Though you do have Priory Country park, which isn't too bad.

It doesn't make me miserable, I just think the place is a mess. Was born here, have a job here, but beyond that I'd not be opposed to leaving, if/when I can afford to. :D

I've only just heard about the newer cinema in MK, looks interesting.

Forgot about the 35min train to St Pancras, last time I used it I was chucked off because I'd got one of the cheap tickets from the tourist office which are only valid on First Capital. :o

You really need to look at the positives sometimes, cheer up :p

I stopped going to that cinema when I was about 15, it hasn't changed since I can remember and still has those rattlling speakers and the smell of death and wee :p

You really should leave Bedford as there are many better places out there. I lived in London for a year after uni and have moved back (commuting now) to save money as London was a joke price wise reting, and living with parents has its advantages :D

PR: Yup they will do that, especially peak times as they are normally packed with commuters (me being one of them).

Lived in Luton for 23 years - getting out of there was the best thing I did!

Bedford has some nice areas but I can't name any, smaller villages like Flitwick, Amptill, Maulden are nice and are a 15 min drive from Bedford. Norhamptonshire where I am now has some nice parts and is only 30mins away from some parts.
