Ok so I just sold my Gaming laptop and PC as I just dont ever play games on it, I have a PS3 for that ;), I needed a change, at first I was going to buy an i7 rig, but I thought why not go a different direction and go for a mac, so now im stuck with a decision to make, im going to buy used, so either;

Buy a 24" inch iMac for about £800
Buy a Macbook(with external screen) for about £400, then also buy a Quad Core PC for £400
Buy a Mac Mini for £400, then also buy a Macbook for £400
Or just buy one desktop or laptop

So what do you PC converters/apple users think I should do? :confused:Im just so confused that I would in the future miss my PC and hate having just a laptop, and vice versa as maybe i want to lie down and use a laptop.

It really does depend on what you planning to use them for, if you can give a few more details we would be able to spec you accordingly :)

Oh sorry, well im studying Multimedia Design in Uni so everything multimedia based really apart from graphics rendering so Mac Pro isnt needed:p, so image editing, video/audio editing, flash work and everything in the Adobe Master Collection I think also the usuall relaxing things like internet surfing and watching movies:)

I suppose it really depends if you feel you need the portability of a laptop.

One option would be to get a MacBook or MacBook Pro and an external monitor. That way you have the big screen for the desktop feel, but you also get the portability when you need it.

hmm thats true, but theres always a downside, like family coming over and asking to borrow the laptop for a bit then I have to wait till they finish using it :S thats why its good to have a desktop available too :(

If that's the case I guess it's between the Macbook and Quadcore or the Mac Mini and Macbook.

Then you need to ask yourself if you need the power of the Quadcore over having a Mac Mini.

Thanks for your replies, I know you didnt suggest it but I think im going to go for an iMac only, they're just too sexy!

Was using the 27inch Imac today in store - my first step into mac's is going to be a 13 inch macbook (maybe pro) but at some point, all going well, I will be having something similar to that!

A good first step is to use a Macbook Pro 13" and then slave off a large display, so you have the functionality of an iMac (well, kind of...), and the portability of a laptop.

Not to mention two screens, I love multi monitor setups and would be really struggling at work without it. only problem with the Imac is getting a monitor to match is impossible!
