My current machine which i'm selling has a 8800 GTX in it.

I am looking to spend under 200 on a card. Should i wait until the new Nvidia Cards come out or just go for the RADEON HD 5850?

and will the prices drop that much?

I doubt the prices will drop substantially but they will drop none the less.
If you are in no rush then I would recommend waiting.

Man, no offence but these threads are going to be the death of me. If you're after a new card at this moment in time, get either a 5770, 5850, 5870, 5970. If you can wait, then wait.

Not sure how much the new nVidia cards will cost, but 5850s were £198 on release day. Obviously supply and demand pushed the prices up high, but seemingly costs are creeping back down to around £220. I'm sure the price will come down when nVidia release their cards, but how far - who can tell?

Up to you if you can wait. With computers you can wait forever for the 'next' newest thing. Anything you buy will be old in a few months!!

well means TSMC have sorted themselfs out 9finally) you should see supply go up and prices go down( we hope)

I would wait as the threat from Nvida should push them down even more so we have the same situation as when the HD4870 was released

thats the theory anyway

ye idd buy what u can afford on the day , tech always gets cheaper over time but if we always have to wait then the next best thing comes along and then we start to wait even longer.. never ending cycle

I would go with a 5850 for now if nvidia release something better for a good budget you can always sell it on and buy that. If what we have so far is to be believed fermi might not lower ati prices as fermi looks like it is going to cost more then ati charge now so no reason for ati to lower as they will probably still offer the best bang for buck after fermi's release.
