Does anyone here have an American Express Platinum charge card?

I've seen the benefits such as free companion tickets on flights and upgrades, what airlines does this work with, and is it only applicable if you buy business / first class ticket? I can't seem to find answers on their site

I had one with Virgin for a while. They gave me 3000 bonus miles for it's first use and I clocked up quite a few more miles from just buying stuff with it. They increased my interest rate significantly after about 12 months though so I canceled the card then, but it was good while it lasted.

You mean a Virgin Amex? I mean the Platinum charge card specifically - charge cards don't have any interest as you have to pay off the full balance each month!

You usually have to book things through them. Either way give them a call - they're very helpful.

I only have a Platinum Cashback (the free one) but they've gone out of their way to help me in the past. Like getting me sold out convert tickets etc.

I had one, it is not worth the fee

the companion flights were available in economy but only on "full fare" flights, these are the flexible schedule tickets

these were invariably more expensive than 2 normal tickets

that is all I have now, get about £2-300 a year cashback but if you don't clear in full the interest is harsh, was 6.9% when I took it out and is about 17% now

Thanks, was wondering as the fee seemed quite steep at $550 for a USD card.

I have the standard platinum cashback card already which is free - guess I'll stick to that

yes, was about 350-375 for the £ one

I got mine for a nominal charge through work, when the work offer stopped there was no way I was paying that

I really dont rate Amex. For some reason my company gives all frequent travellers a corporate Amex. The amount of places that dont accept it or charge a fee is ridiculous. I wish they would change it to something more widely accepted.

Anyone that doesn't accept AMEX, in my opinion, aren't worth my money. They're too cheapskate to pay the fee, so **** em. Obviously unless they're a very small company - but even so, no excuse.

depends on the business - if its low margin then tbh.. I don't blame them for not accepting AMEX - why should a company like say an online computer hardware store (which basically sells stuff at only slightly higher than wholesale prices) pay excessive fees to a service select group of customers. especially when a portion of that excessive fee is going straight into the customer's pocket in the form of cashback or air miles.

On the other hand if you're running a restaurant (and are competent enough to run one properly) then you're margins should be sufficient that a credit card company subjecting you to slightly higher transaction charges doesn't affect you nearly as much.

I had the platinum charge card, wasn't worth it in the end, never took advantage of the companion seats but there were good deals to be had with it though.

downgraded to the gold card, just like the fact that i can spend how much i want, not pay interest and pay it back at the end of the month when pay day comes.

plus i've found the customer service to be extremely good

I had this card about 8 years ago, if you spent £15,000 in one year they would give you the companion ticket.
I was amassing airmiles with travel in work and paying for the hotels on the card, and spanked 120,000 airmiles on a trip to new york on concorde! They then gave my wife a free ticket and i had to pay £60 tax :)

They have changed the card in recent years and i no longer travel with work.

But if you stay in hotels and build airmiles with work, this is the card to have. Pretty sure you can fly economy, but with airmiles you are a fool if you waste them in economy.

I had one, but I never used it. Wasn't really worth it.

For corporate use, however, my Mrs one is worth a fortune; 200,000+ points a year means I never pay for flights!

Like Tesco Pay@Pump, most main dealer car garages and pretty much every small business I've ever been in?

To be honest it’s really not worth paying for. You get one free flight when travelling with a paying passenger if you spend 10 000 GBP in a year on the card.

The Natwest black card is better because it offers better insurance. The both give you a free Priority pass (this is why I went for ne****) and a concierge service.

The concierge service is really very good. They will do anything for you. We here standing in line to get into a club in Vegas last year. We called the concierge service and they got us on the VIP list in less than 10 min and we walked right in. They also managed to get tickets to sold out shows and even found me a Milgauss GV some time back.

The Barclays i24 card is also very good.

Natwest Black

So as you'd expect, the criteria for the card are higher than for a regular credit card. That’s why it is only available to customers with a sole income of £75,000 or above and over 25 years of age. Approval is subject to status and conditions

Barclaycard i24 doesn't charge you when you make purchases abroad. You'll even continue to earn cashback on your spend wherever you go in the world.

Typical 57.8% APR (variable)

 :p
