New car time needs loads of MPG

Do you really find your free time so much more enjoyable by having that extra £10 a week you saved over opting for a proper car?

What do you do with it, go to Burger King 1.5 times?

My first car was costing me 214 quid a month, for 5 years. Did about 30 mpg. This one is costing me 35 quid a month, and gets at worst 60 mpg. The saving in fuel alone is more than worth the 'step down', and if you took the time to read the topic of the thread, clearly the guy does want to take cost into consideration. Who knows, maybe hes got a wife / gf and kids, you know, more important things than boosting his ego with a penis extension motor.

£214 in company car tax and 30mpg indicates something at completely the other end of the spectrum. There are numerous cars better suited for long distance driving that would cost far less than £100 a month in company car tax. You make it sound like the only choice is a Yaris OR a petrol guzzler with nothing in between.

1.Budget of 10 K max.

2.Going to be used 5 times a week for a 92 mile round trip to work , 99% of it dual carriage way at 75MPH .

3.Can be as small as you like .

4.Needs to be a little funky as i will spend around 1.5-2 hours a day in it.

5.The 320D touring I have is returning around 45MPG , I want to see the upside of 55MPG Idealy 60 MPG at 75-80 MPH ,this is doen at the hours of 3PM and Midnightso NO traffic , obviously needs to be diesel .

6.The car nees to be as reliable as can be in the region of 28,000 a year including commuting and runnig around so.

7.Not to bothered about residuals.

Sounds like my suggestion was more than valid.

I'm not sure how chosing a Yaris over, say, a Golf gives you more free time.

Dont be silly, you suggested national express. I even included that method of travel in my reply to link back to it.

I have absolutely no idea. I was about to say I dont care but I do love pointless numbers so based on an average of one complete set every 2 years @ £600... a fiver a week?

Yes, because at that point we seemed to be talking exclusively about cost.

We were talking about cost? Why on earth did you suggest National Express? :p

Tyres and oil are pretty significant cost differences to be fair though when you total them up.

Jezz man!! Life's way, way too short for that! Can't you find a job within 10 miles of home? Or home within 10 miles of your job? Even a job that pays £20k less per year would be worth not losing the best part of 2 hours a day for! Wouldn't it be better to spend that extra time with your wife and kids?

I spent a year commuting 50 miles a day on A and B roads, never, ever again. For the last 4 years I've been either a 10 minute walk or 25 minute bike depending on office from work. Being home before 5pm is very important to me.

I won't recommend a car, as I think you need a large car for that sort of commute. My office is 5 miles from me but I spend 3 days on the road travelling to see my customers (2000 miles a month). My company car is a Vectra (No choice in it!) and even in a car of that class is not comfy. I would prefer to do it in the Civic.

If you are going to be spending that amount of time in a car doing that many miles, you are crazy to be looking at the options you have been thinking about!
