Morning all,

Question for today is:

When washing your hands - is it good enough (Hygienically) to use just water, or should you always use soap and water?

What do you do?

Thanks

We've got mega-soap at our place that rocks. It's got bits of sugar in it that basically make it act as a defolient and perfume designed to wake you up and make you all alert (1984 or what!!). We handle parcels all day so we need the mother of all hand cleaners.

We also have air blowers that blow about a 300mph jet of wind at 1cm of your hand at a time, making the skin ripple wierdly. Awesome!

Since the swine flu hassle, we have bottles of pure alchoholc positioned round the building which you can squirt onto your hands as you walk past, which not only makes you more hygeinic, but also makes you smell like an alchoholic tramp. Which is nice. The bottles actually have 'poison' labels on them!

those airblade jobbies? They're awesome.

But yeah - you should make use of soap. There is the school that says that if you over do it on the cleaning thing then you're body won't get the chance to develop the antibodies that it needs to defend itself but after the bog - hells yes.

The other reason for using soap is that it helps break down oil on your hands preventing grubby fingerprints on stuff.

Soap and water has been more than adequate for centuries, but some some reason some people now feel the need to use a antibacterial rub of some description as well.

Is it any wonder we are all losing our immune systems and bringing up a load of wimps? This country................. *shakes head* :D

Soap and Hot water. I was of the understanding that cool/warm water will cause germs to grow in numbers as the water is not hot enough to kill germs without the use of soap/antibacterial soap.

Personally I like the alcohol hand rub as no drying is required.

unless you have some sort of infection would it be more hygienic to was your hands with your own wee? as wee is sterile but water from the tap could (possibly) have anything in it??

More than adequate except in clinical environments where soap and water is not sufficient. Unless you want some nice infection with that surgery you may need :)

I don't think soap kills the bacteria, it just makes them slip off your hands along with all the other grime that's on them.

That's why antibacterials are used, as they can kill the germs that get left behind, in folds of skin etc.

Just rinsing your hands with water...eewww, that will help them to breed as it gives them more moisture.

The hand dryers that britboy4321 mentioned sound ace! Has anyone seen one of those new Dyson hand dryers yet? They are supposed to be incredibly effective.
