To all the web designers out there;

How much do you charge for a website?
Something like a 12 page website for a holiday cottage.

Including gallery, paypal integration, google maps api etc.

Probably using a made from scratch Joomla template, for easy editing for the end owner.

I've been contacted by someone to make one for them -i've done plenty of bits in the past for free for family and friends, so they've passed on my details.

Would appreciate any rough ball park figures.

For freelancing, estimate how long it will take you and multiple it by how much you'd like to earn per hour. Take that total and add in any additional costs (hosting, etc.) and there you go. Depending on the client, you can then raise or lower it some. Obviously, a large successful company is going to be able to pay more than a struggling company which has just started so you can take that into consideration.

I've said it once before, so its deffo worth saying again,
Get them to give you one of THESE!!:

Ah, i'm so glad you brought that back up again! I couldn't find it before.

Mind if I put it on the site?

And thanks Trip. I've done that, and suggested £500 - mainly because it's the first i've charged, and the work involved, and they're happy with it and accepted it straight away.
Perhaps I should have asked for more........!

I would have gone for more personally but your first few probably won't be that great and are really more of a learning experience than anything.

You'll inevitably do things wrong or mess up on something so take note of what you could do better and/or improve on and work with it.

For example, time estimation - say you factor 30 mins for something but something goes wrong or there is a peculiar browser bug or something, you can easily spend 1 or 2+ additional hours sorting it out. I always factor in extra time in case of any problems.

I tend to charge at a fixed page rate, then add on say 2 extra hours (depending on size of the site) for adjustments/changes etc.
