I am looking at getting one of these as reading around it seems to be the one to get for around £100. am I right in choosing this one?

I was looking for a new card today myself and was considering one of these, I'll give you my personal analysis but be interested to hear what the other guys have to say.

I don't think this is a great buy when you can get a Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4870 Golden Sample 1024MB for £87 - true the 5770 runs a bit cooler and draws less juice but in most benchmarks I've seen the 4870 outperforms it by around 5-10% (minimum) and that's just compared to a stock 4870, the Gainward mentioned above is about 5% (ish) faster than a stock from what I can tell so would seem like a better purchase.

Bit-Tech have a good review here http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2008/11/18/gainward-radeon-hd-4870-1gb-golden-sample/12 - it didn't get an amazing score at the time as it didn't overclock that great (I'm not fussed on this point) and was quite pricey at the time but looking at it now it definitely looks attractive. Will give me a decent boost of an 8800GT, you might be better off with a 4890 though if you have a bit more budget.

I've also been checking out benchmarks to compare here http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3658&p=5

TBH it's gonna vary from system to system and the 5770 seems to yield better minimum frames per second which as a result will give the feel of a smoother game.

i'll find you the reviews i read

The cards fine, the drivers a ****. Personally id get a diff card, mine crashes quite often playing the poorest of games, even CS:S.

Win 7
6GB Tri Channel Ram
I7 950
Gigabyte EX58

i think these problems are localised to a select unfortunate few some people have no problems what so ever

I'd look at your ram, I had the same issues and was just a bad stick. Unstable systems seem to get weeded out very quickly by these cards

Being the proud owner of a 5770 I really like my card. Good scope for overclocking with some nifty power management and direct x 11. Plus, in 6 months time hopefully the price will ahve come down a lot and I can crossfire them!

It's that memory that chokes it :(

Although in time I hope the drivers will improve fps slightly over time bringing close to the 4870, which itself oly got quicker as drivers improved. Then again 5770 are cool cards, over-clocking one shouldn't be that difficult :)

I got the 5770 just recently. I think it's good. With MW2 everything on max I get about 80-100fps I think. I only play on 1280x1024 though as I have a small monitor by todays standards :D

You think? You can count fps with your eyes?

I like my 5770. so far the only time I notice frame rate drop is when I drive through puddles at full speed in dirt2 with everything maxed (except AA). I have mine up at 945/1300 on stock volts perfectly stable so you can squeeze a lot out of them.
