Dispite SB thread of doom - the team has more members and a higher output than pre-christmas :D
So it is far from a bad news week - but the other top team are all pulling away and we are only a month away from being stomped.

Well biffa's a slacker, it's offical - but there is a lot of red this week.
The +/- info is from the last news I did - which shamefully was nearly a month ago
So the news this week is a pre-christmas / post christmas 7 day comparision.

Some intresting results - with major changes at all levels of the table.
Stan Lite, snapsh0t, Happy, SiriusB, piggott, iancampbel-l4 all puting in MAJOR more folding than a month ago.
Nice one guys

Also some new members joining the ranks :) so a warm welcome to you all:
Kit Hounsel
Wakayoda (you have two active accounts btw)
shim
Rapier(OcU-K)
serenity
NexusSIX

For those new to the news - it ranks every one on points credited in the last week.
So wheather it is your first or fifty-first week all members of the team are equal in the news.
'Gain' is how many places you have gained/lost since last week (or month in this case)
'Stomp' is how many places you have gained/lost overall in the full team ranking (1901 members total)
'/' is most likely someone that has joined/restarted in the last few weeks (your data will be complete next week)

Yes, its my turn on spanky, all I can say is I had to leave some machines with the GPU client not-on over the weekend as I needed to access them via rdp.

Back to normal now, and thanks for the news SS :D

I wish there was a way around the RDP thing. Lately I am avoiding RDPing to my machine but when it becomes the server I am not sure what I am going to do as it will be headless and living in the attic.

Thanks for the news SS. I also quite like the title Thread of Doom! I am glad to see I was mostly incorrect about the numbers of folders. This just means we need to do more to get everyone chatting and being involved again. Remember the races we had a few years ago? I would be interested in giving that a go again!

The races etc was one of the reasons I changed the news format.
As now a new member with 25k ppd but only 50k total can mingle with the 'mentals' in the top 10.
I'd like to bring back the single cruncher league too.

If you mean a first to 100k - single cruncher on a new ID - I'm up for that.
Anyone want to set it up?
I'm happy to do some daily simple stats/graphs - as a single gpu will hit 100k in under two weeks

Yeah the RDP thing is annoying, still it means I'm checking the shed fairly regularly for rats etc.

Thanks for the news SS, I lol'd when I read "thread of doom"! Glad to see it's not all bad but we do need to up our game if we are to be competitive at the top.

Races? I'm up for some races! And on that note a couple of parps:
Senture - 3 days
Happy - 1.4 weeks

I like the Single Crunchers League too. Mostly because I was at the top for a while and never more than 3rd or 4th :p I am still a single cruncher now!

If you want to set up a race to 100K I am up for that. I think bigadv should be banned. Stan will just roll in and have 100K in points after 4 days :p

If stan want's to add his i7 I'm not stoping him... (5,000 miles might though)
But seriously - he's not the only one doing bigadv - so why not have lots of mini battles at all levels of the race...
Your two 265 will eat my 260 for breakfast

Sweet good ol' news I should stay in the top ranks now as i have had a whole 4 days without my little box going wrong.

I am all setup for doing Bigadv units just need to wait about 2 weeks then ill get my 12Gb of ram and I'm good to go my VM has been stable so I'm happy 25-26k PPD not too bad i think :D

Oh and parp to - ChrissyT88 - 01.27.10, 5pm / 1 Week

Slacker :p

Cheer's SS

Thanks for the news SS, just hanging on to the top ten!

Edit:- also now a single machine cruncher again :)

I should have made it clear, I was being tongue in cheek with the banning.

I don't care how anyone chooses to race, it will be fun no matter what if we get plenty of people taking part. I already know I wouldn't win - the GTX 280s or 295 can probably spank both of my 260s on their own!

I see KE1HA has woken up too with what looks like a couple of GPUs, just as I was a day away from stomping him. Now that's what I call inconsiderate. ;)

Thanks for the news SS - nice to see ones name in lights :D

I think a competition would be a good idea. IIRC, in the past they were open but with different categories (similar to the way the single cruncher league worked - i.e. bigadv; GPU/CPU hybrid; CPU only etc.). If somebody could be bothered to work out the details, it'd be a laff and may generate a bit of competition and banter within the team.

Just as long as you wait until I get back home :p I probably wouldn't use the i7 rig anyway because I plan to get some serious gaming in while I'm home. I'd probably use the dedicated Folding rig in my bedroom but, instead of Ubuntu, I'd use Notfred and ramp up the OC to suicide levels for the duration of the competition :D

Yeah, sri about that mate. I bricked my big box, well I didn't, a lightning strike did, and that took out 2x GTX-280's. Can't fold on it at all, screen goes all bonkers as soon as it's starts to crunch. I'm wondering if it's a driver / voltage issue or something. I can't run VMWare 5.5 on my main box as it's 64-Bit, and haven't figured out how to get any other version of VMWare to run on it or I'd be running Linux SMP clients on that one.

Only have 3 boxes running now, my Q9770 SMP (WinDoze Unfortunately), 2x AMD-9850's with 3x 9800GT's each, and will have my2x 8800-GT's running probably tomorrow. Should be good for 25-30K PPD but that's about it I'm afraid.

Try VMWare Player 3 and either Notfred's VM image or the Linux image that Stan and I use for the -bigadv WUs. Trivial to set up for most people....

Agreed. The Linux image for bigadv works perfectly well with VMWare player 3. Just run it with the -smp 4 flag and it works a treat - I do that for my smp VMs.

Think I got VMP v3.0 working now, what a pain that thing is. I'm used to using the workstation versions, but cant complain for free I suppose. I only need VM on my primary computer, all the rest of my boxes are CLI Linux already. I suppose a USB stick would be less power, but functionally limited to what the package has to offer I suppose and a whole lot more complicated to addd apps too.

This -bigadv business, what's that all about? I dont have an i7 processor, so only 4 cores here. Does this -bigadv work on normal Quads e.g no HT?

They're supposed to be for multi core rigs and aren't even recommended for i7s. They give massive bonus points if finished within the 4 day deadline but no bonus at all if outside that.

Anything less than an i7 probably wouldn't finish the work before the deadline and wouldn't benefit you pointswise and would also be bad from the science point of view.

Get yourself an i7 :p

As I like to point out when bigadv is mentioned, you also need a metric crap-load of RAM for those big WUs too. 4-5GB I think is what Stanford recommends.
