I'm interested in learning more about one or possibly both of these subjects. Can anyone recommend any easy to follow, but valid, books to begin with?

I have a psyciatrist and psycologist

My opinion is psyciatrists are the devil, and they cant do much for people these days anyway in like 15 minute appointments. they dont have time to see if what they are doing is helpfull or not. all they can do really is prescribe. I think they need to stand up for their profession or carry on becoming just like a normal gp because they just cant get enough infomation in that time its ridiculous but they seem to be satisfied.

psycologists approach is endlessly better probabily a more satisfieng job to do too.

Well I wouldn't bother with the 2nd unless you're in possession of a medical degree.

But for the 1st one I did Psy 101 as my optional 1st year module at uni we used the Gleitman textbook which seems to be a good intro to the subject:

What specifically about the subjects the clinical or social sides? I'm in my final year doing psychology at uni.

Can recommend from first year "The story of Psychology" by M. Hunt its old but goes through the basics and history.

Passer, M. & Smith, R.E., Psychology: The Science of Mind and Behaviour is very good to give a good basic understanding.
Used it in my first year psychology class. Get an older edition for cheap.

I'm more interested in the social side.

What makes psychology better than psychiatry?

I think that psychiatry and psycology are both very good professions and of equil importance and both very satisfieng topics to learn about but i am sure that most psyichatrists are dissapointed with the role that they play in the currant health system.

with 15 minutes any patient is basically a lab rat and which is how i feel. they cant spend time getting the right infomation and anything you say to a psyciatrist is fixated on because it cant be put is a proper context. Psycologists seem to have more time and are less restricted by government targets. its a pity that they cant prescribe medication because they take their time to get to know what a person is like and what treatment is needed.

I am just saying the topics are interesting but if you are looking to become a professional then consider the roles that they play very carefully. psyciatry seems to be a very boring factory job these days. you wont be given the time to learn about your patients and apply the knowlage they you have studied.

I am speeking from the point of view of a patient so i am no expert Its just what i have experienced and if it was me i would be a psycologist

I always liked - Psychology: The Science of Mind and Behaviour by Richard Gross. This will cover psychology.

As for the other subject you kind of need to go through the theories in Gross etc and you will find that pops up a lot in that a great deal of psychologists seem to derive their theories from malfunction rather than function (yes I am looking at you crazy Austrians).

And the above is one persons experience and far from the norm.
