Hi all,

So my Rover Coupe is due its MOT on Feb 4th; had a quick look round the car and have the following which needs doing to it:

Exhaust (Cat Back)
Anti-Roll Bar Rubber Bushes (x2)
Sticky caliper on one of the front brakes
PAS Leak
Sump Gasket
Front Shocks and Springs (Mainly springs as last owner cut only one side  )
Wheel Bearing
Number plate light wiring needs re-doing (common fault on Coupe's)

Some other things too which I cannot remember off hand... and I haven't had a proper look over it yet!

Any idea's on what sort of price all of this will be at a garage? And is it worth doing? It's a 1998 Coupe 1.6

I am picking up an Escort SI (3 door) on Friday with 10 months MOT and 6 months Tax to keep me on the road until I decide what to do with it, (I have to have a car for work :( )

Edit:

Exhaust (Cat Back) - £100 max perhaps?
Anti-Roll Bar Rubber Bushes (x2) - depends which ones £10-20 for them, 30 mins to fit.
Sticky caliper on one of the front brakes - DIY
PAS Leak - Wipe it and ignore it unless its drastic.
Sump Gasket - Wipe it and ignore it unless its drastic.
Front Shocks and Springs (Mainly springs as last owner cut only one side  ) - £40 perhaps for a pair of used ones
Wheel Bearing - Depends if its front or rear, rear you can just swap the hub and its fairly easy, maybe 30 minutes max if you have a spare. Front is more of a PITA.
Number plate light wiring needs re-doing (common fault on Coupe's)- DIY

At a garage, I wouldnt bother, going to cost you a fortune.

Cheers for that,

I am limited in what I can do DIY (Have arthritis). I think the wheel bearing is the front. A friend of mine had a Rover Coupe and he got his front bearing changed, then his wheel fell off afterwards (the garage didn't tighten up the hub properly

Put it on eBay and buy one with a longer MOT. Probably work out cheaper and you get a 'new' car :D

(Unless there's some reason for keeping the current one......)

PAS leak could probably be fixed with some Lucas oil - worked wonders for me that stuff before - costs about 8 quid for a bottle, just dump it in the reservoir and voila, leak fixed - although obviously it won't cure a major leak, but it may well get you through your MOT.

I already have this Escort which I am picking up (bit of a bargain, SI 3 door, 10 months MOT, 6 months tax, just had a service, 80k miles... £250 !! )

No reason to keep the Coupe apart from the reason that I enjoy driving it and like the looks. If I could get the insurance I would buy a Turbo :p

The leak is from the pipe going to the header tank; loose clip I think; what is this Lucas Oil stuff? :p

DJ Binks, get onto a few of the Rover forums...

(For example)
Rover 200/400 Owners Club
Rover Coupe Owners Club
Rovertech
MG-Rover.org

I'm sure you could persuade a few local members to pop over and give you a hand in return for some form of beverage ;)
