VAC - UnBan

VAC sucks. I played css since it was out. then i install my bamboo tablet (it has a few programs in the background to work) and VAC kept giving me a error saying unknown program running in the background. 2 months later i got banned :\
 
VAC's not perfect, but I've not heard of any instance where people were banned accidentally other than the glitches previously mentioned. Basically it's detected a cheat in your memory and banned you for it. I'm going to say, if it wasn't you directly cheating, it's due to a cheat hiding away inside something you've downloaded and it's auto-ran to get you banned. If that's the case, there's no way for you to prove that.
 
i love it when people come whining about being vac baned :D

Are you sure you were vac baned and not just baned from a server or steambaned? check your vac status, open steam goto file/settings.
 
was u using the mw2 zero g hack to play online? if so thats why ur banned from vac lols
 
The thing about VAC is that, AFAIK, it bans for known hacks. There's no heuristic scanning or anything like that. Because of this, I'm not sure how it could manage a false positive.

But also because of this, I'd assume they need the hacks to be able to find and ban for them. I know you can email the moderators on the forums if you find a hacker, and they forward them onto the people that program the VAC.

As regards for sueing them, what would you sue them for? You can still play all the games you bought. You just can't play on VAC secured servers. You should be thanking valve for not locking you out of your account, as hacking is against their ToS and they would be within their rights to delete your account for breaking them.
 
if you say you havent been hacking then fair enough, but the sad truth is VACs Zero Tolerance policy means your ******.

ive had my account stolen before, thank god they didnt do any hacking on it, id have been devestated. VAC is a bit harsh in that if your account is stolen and used for hacking you can not do anything about it therefor you lose all games (multiplayer) you've spent money on.

sorry to hear dude, lets just hope you dont have plenty spent on that account.

Different engine, no MW2 hack would cause a VAC BAN certainly won't affect CSS if he did use that hack for MW2, which by his OP he clearly states CSS.

Bans are by engine. I believe there are 4 there now. Source:Gold, used in 1.6 and the older games, Source for all the current source games, MW2 has its own ban, as does Garry's Mod, I believe.
Though Garry's Mod bans may be joined in with source bans, I'm not sure.

Hang on, there are hacks for Garry's Mod?
 
There is also a problem I've started to notice from playing a lot of servers that also maybe a cause. The past few weeks after reinstalling cs and css I forgot to disable cl_allowdownload while connecting to a few servers, and from one of them I downloaded a virus as well something that changed all my controls in my config. The thing that annoys me about this as well is that even when you disable cl_allowdownload a load of servers will kick you or not let you in because you don't have 'specific files'. Public cs/css servers are a joke.

Wouldn't be surprised if people are getting VAC bans through this method of 'infection' from stupid kiddy hackers making you dl junk from their servers.

I'd hardly call it a virus. CS needs to know your keybindings, and can edit them, certainly nothing that can get you VAC banned. Server commands can mess around with your game configs, but that's it.

And while I can't speak for CS:S, I've played with Downloads disabled since I started playing TF2, and I've only hit a couple of servers I can't access, ignoring those that are running unofficial maps.
 
I am aware of that, I had 2 things happen: the virus which was seperate issue entirely which came with an infected wav, and the rebinding of keys (not the virus).

Also, the issue with servers and cl_allowdownload was mostly in 1.6.
 
Well being honest and as a former admin on many cs:s servers i never banned anyone who didn't profess loudly that they were innocent and had never hacked\cheated in their life. Vac bans can be overturned but only after a lengthy process where absolute proof is found that a third party program was causing a false positive and you will not be treated very friendly by valve while they sort it and often they don't even start the process.

At least that's how it used to work upto about a year and half ago when i stopped playing online due to the increase in the number of cheating gits meaning i was spending most of my time recording morons and never getting to play. Usually it is better to just go buy another game and create a new account and start again being a lot more careful if your one of the tiny tiny minority that had a genuine false positive.

One bit of advice you really should listen too though is don't go trying to talk tough about legal action because i don't care if your relative is perry mason chap they will bury you on that score so don't waste your time or that of your relative if they are stupid enough to do anything other then nod and smile at you when you talk about it :).
