I am building a new PC. So far, I bought a Core i7 920, an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 3x SLI/CrossfireX Socket 1366 Motherboard, a pack of Patriot RAM (6 GB ddr3 @ 1600 MHz), a WD 1 TB hard drive, a Lite-on Blu Ray drive, and an Ultra~120 eXtreme CPU cooler. The case and power supply depend on what Video Card I choose. Come Febuary I get paid. Thinking of an ATI dual 5970. My patience with FERMI is gone. Recommendations? Thanks.

That is going to be a nice rig.

One slight problem I can see, is trying to get hold of a pair of 5970's. They are as rare as Rocking Horse poo at the moment (UK anyway).

Ironically, Fermi, in whatever carnation NV decide, might be released before your 5970's arrive.

Good luck with whatever choice you make.

Sounds like that is going to be Behemoth of a machine...........going to that expense i would wait for my first choice of card, in your case Fermi.

How many monitors and at what res do you game?
I would probably just get a 5850 and OC it to 5870 levels and a nice big case. That way you can use the rig now and it will have plenty of lee way if fermi is a huge card. Then if Furby is an awesome card you can sell your 5850 and put the money to your new card.
With that rig you are putting together id want to be using it now otherwise you would be better waiting and buying all your components at once.If your waiting for Furby then id of waited for the 930 as well :)

Good luck with what ever you decide :)

Furby is never going to be a good card..

Surely case and PSU do not depend on the card?
With the money you are spending and the rig spec'd so far a 1000W PSU and either silverstone or Lan Li case will be the way forward, and both will take multiple large GPU cards?!

Or is the question what cards to buy?

If that is the case buy the most expensive single PCI-e card now, then another the on your next pay cheque! Sounds like money is not the question, just the fastest best rig you can build.

Justify buying 2 5970 - you can build an entire good performance pc for that price !

Yeah, come on justify that decision if you can! I really want to know why you think that 2x5970 is a better choice than my 5970+5870, is it cos you knows best or just want some fun messing with yer hardware? Some people eh :p

Thanks 4 all the replies! The monitor I'll be using's max res is 1280x1024, a 20-inch CRT. I prefer CRT cause a) I got it FOR FREE and b) No, or almost no screen lag like LCD. Also, I waited on the case and PSU cause I might, in the far future, get a second, or even a third 5970 for maximum gamimg performance! Since the 5970 is over a foot long and one 5970 at full burn needs 294W (not OC'ed), my case and PSU will both need to be gargantuan.

WOW At the res your throwing your money away as a 5850 would be overkill!
You will see no benifit with a higher card unless your using at least 1920x1080p.

BTW, a 5970 is relatively simple to get here in the Great White North: The store I shop at is called PC Cyber (pccyber.com). They do not carry the 5970, but I can special-order it after I put 20 or 25 percent money down. Then, I think they said it would take 1 or 2 weeks to arrive. So, not too bad for the best Video Card on Earth! I got my 5970 power consumtion stats from the Feb 2010 issue of Maximum PC magazine. Yes, someone still reads magazines! :) Power Supply recommendation for a future 3x 5970 rig?

Hmm, well I want to get a nice, big 1080p LCD HDTV, like a 42-inch, to use as my monitor. And I want to max out Crysis on it.

Forest.............Are you pulling our legs here?

Look, perhaps your a millionaire, but that doesn't mean you need to flush cash down the toilet.
1) Either get 1 or more 30" monitors or
2) get this and a single 5870!

You see, any more power than a 5870 won't be perceivable.
