7 Year Old Raises £100,000+ for Haiti

It's great that this kid has achieved this, but I have two points:

A) David Bull, Unicef's UK executive director, said: "This is a very bold and innovative gesture by Charlie that shows he connects with and not only understands what children his own age must be going through in Haiti, but is also wise enough to know that he can help them.

Hmmm....he's 7. Most mature adults can't fathom what real poverty is like, I think they're giving him a bit too much credit. Picky I know.

B) It's kinda sad that people felt more inclined to give money to a child, to give to other children who're in trouble, rather than just cutting out the middle man.

I'm a human.

good to hear you donated, do you think you would have not if it weren't for how you posted in this thread? it seems only good things have come from how you have posted so I release you from any guilt you may be feeling, be free my friend :)

also the assumption that you'd care because you're human is a little silly as it was humans that flew the planes into the twin towers. some people are different.

Well when you're in a bad situation I hope that no one helps you.
little harsh no?

Did I really now? When did I say I don't care? Of course I bloody care, I'm a human.

Same to you Rotty, reading back it was a very harsh post. I still stand by a principal of what it sounded like in my head but I couldn't get it into words that would be understood by the forum. unfortunately my attempt of wording it came out to make me sound like an uncaring tool.

I have the dilemna of going to the DR in 10 days, a week in a luxury hotel while folks are suffering 100 miles away

apparantly a lot of Haitians work in the DR so rely on tourists, I have also made a donation to the relief fund but my holiday doesn't sit comfortably at all

In fact I was already registering to the site before the ****storm.

Even if Shauncr didn't actually care about what was going on over there, so what? I've met a lot of people that don't really care, that's their opinion and they are entitled to it.

I thought ocuk had rules about personal attacks and it seems that a few have been made her and nothings been done which isn't really fair.

Its incredible how much a kid that young can do.

Im all for charity and helping those in need, but the Haiti situation really perplexes me. There are people trapped under rubble and there is no food, water, and shelter, and yet there are these mad people running about trying to loot everything and everyone to take advantage of the dire situation, with cops chasing them armed with guns. What is this madness? I saw a photo of a guy in Haiti removing a dead corpse from a wooden coffin so he could steal the coffin? Seriously wtf is that? Whilst the rest of the world try and help Haiti anyway they can, the people of Haiti are too busy being criminals?

Where did they get this mentality that it was okay to behave in this way in a time of national crisis?

Dont mean to hijack the thread, but it just does not make sense to me.

Surely it should read, "Media help child, who knows nothing about what the issue is, to raise more money than he set out to"!

Good on the child for raising money for Haiti, but how come we don't do this sort of thing for other countries who have been desperately in need for years before this incident.

Thatl be in the kids CV :D raised more money than what people can get in years ^^

Well Done!
