Hi guys

I got a new car yesterday and i noticed something weird whilst changing gears.. everytime i change gears, as i release the clutch the brake pedal feels as if its moving slightly (i can feel some movement on my right foot and i don't think its the gas pedal)..

is this normal??

I remember my sisters KA doing this! There was no problem with it and we put it down to just being a "design quirk".

Is it a Ford by any chance?

its a bmw 1 series.
the brake pedal in my old car would sometimes go down slightly when slowing down and releasing the clutch, but that never really bothered me as i thought it was just 'engine braking' or something.

but now its happening in my new car even when i am speeding up and not slowing down.. could it be normal but maybe i am noticing it more because the pedals in the 1series are pretty close together??

the car has had a service and MOT earlier this month so i'm hoping its nothing to worry about..

if you just picked it up yesterday, and it's from a dealer, take it back and get them to sort it.

if not, have a look underneath, maybe something needs tightening

i think i know what it is....... it was the floor mat... LOL
i pulled the mat backwards a little and i didn't have the problem anymore... :P

Lol, was going to suggest that. I routinely remove floormats from the driver side of most of my cars nowadays after an incident where the mat got caught in the throttle pedal on a dual carriageway. Had a few moments of panicked unplanned acceleration before I managed to clear it with my feet.

The brake pedal doesn't move under engine braking as engine braking is exactly that, the engine controlling the speed. Not the brakes.

Haha! My wife did something similar.

For a few days she'd been complaining that her car was having problems getting into gear. She'd crunch it putting it in reverse and it finally came to a head one day when she stopped at traffic lights and she had to shove it as hard as she could just to get it into first.

I take a look when she gets home - thinking of new clutches, knackered gearboxes and kissing goodbye to the holiday fund.

Turns out the problem was that her mat was getting in the way of the pedals and she was only pushing the clutch down about halfway :D
