Need to side step from ATI Radeon HD 4870

Supposed to be cheaper than a 4890, I'll believe it when I see it.

Dates have been pushed back to the 5/2 by the looks of things, which is a shame (but I can wait, I've waited this long).

I'd personally say hold on for a little while longer, see what price the 5830 is, if it's in price range then it's a winner, if not then going for a 5770 is probably going to be the option for you, you'll see an improvement even, seeing as you'll be going from 512mb to 1024mb :)

I'm also going to go against the grain here and suggest a 5750, it's not quite as powerful as a 4870 1024mb, not sure how it compares to a 4870 512mb, however the real bonus comes in crossfire, these cards are already relatively cheap, when they drop in price a bit more grab yourself a second and you'll have a relatively cheap and powerful setup.

The 5830's been pushed back 'til Feb 5th, and personally I'd put it at £160-£170, but should be a fairly substantial improvement over the 5770- which in fairness isn't a bad card unless you're terribly fussed about the DX11 stuff, in which it'll struggle.

Oh yeah, i forgot about that (was me who posted up the delay as well lol), but i think, you may as well pay the extra and get the 5850, as the 5830 will be priced to near it.

5770 really for that budget. 5830 will be £180 plus and is delayed. Cant recommend the 5750 as the price of the 1Gb version is too close to the 5770. Cant recommend Nvidia at all unfortunately as their cards are all overpriced in comparison and are old tech anyway.:)

Read a really good review, 260 between my 4870 and 57XX

So am going for a 260 (cheapo version) as towards end of year, ill see whats int he offerings from both firms at the top end of the market.

Also i know well everything im playing works with my current 4870 512, so really, anything even if slightly faster was acceptable.

Thanks for your help guys.

Don't touch a GTX260, utter waste of money. Get a 5770, there's simply no reason to get a GTX260 at all.

Im side stepping with a 10-15% increase.

Later in the year, prob 6-8months im going to buy a high end card 350-600 gbp, so little point forking out 200 quid now.

understand why people are saying move up to,but saving pennys for seeing the offerings later

5770 isn't £200, it's £117 (Club3D) against £138 for a 260. 5770 cheaper, 260 more expensive. 5770 newer tech, 260 older tech. 5770 quieter, 260 louder. 5770 cooler, 260 hot as anything.

Maybe you should check your numbers, re-read your reviews and price compare ;)

Good job i managed to source one for 60 GBP lol

Also i want to save to buy something like 59XX later in the year
