Lord of the Rings Online account hacked

To be honest accounts can't be 'hacked'. Chances are you've got a keylogger on your PC or you've got an easy account password and username.

Check for malware, try an alternative antivirus (what are you currently using?).

In 99% of these account hacked cases it's normally the user whose at fault, can you not simply reset your password if you have it linked with your e-mail account?

OK, sorry I was being inaccurate. My account has been stolen.

I got an email earlier today from Codemasters as follows :

Your account has been modified as requested. If you did not request these changes please contact our support staff on: [email protected].

A summary of the changes made follows:

:
Your password has been changed
Email address:
old value: [email protected], new value: [email protected]

I have already checked for keyloggers and none have come up and my password is not something easy to guess. It is a random alphanumeric string which means nothing to anyone.

I have tried with a number of virus checkers and similar with nothing getting picked up.

I can't login to my account. It has been stolen.

I have possibly 1/2 other online accounts with the same password (which is where I think this has come from)

I'm not looking for help so much as a change to vent.

I really get ****ed off with the amount of scumbags out there.

I also think the Codemasters security is pretty shocking. I can't believe they don't send a confirmation email out before allowing someone to change an email address on file. Surely that is just basic.

Unlucky, i highly doubt youll get it back, codemasters online support is an embarrassment.

Blizzard are very good with some help from forumites as well - not bigging up wow, i just suspect it happens a lot more with wow than with lotro. I wouldnt swap my authenticator for anything after my account hack, i think theyre an essential. I changed my passwords and did a hard drive wipe just for peace of mind.

It was such a massive, massive problem in wow though, lotro has never had anything like the issues, doesnt excuse codemasters for basically doing nothing about it though.

:( that sucks. have you lost much?
Had a kin member last month have 2 chars deleleted and 130g gone -.-

Games should start doing what banks do and have a drop down list where you pick 4th 7th char etc of your password.

I had a Lvl 43 Char - to be honest with you at that level there are no items which can't be replaced quickly in a couple of levels.

The problem is a) the time and b) getting my account back at all

This wouldn't help when most cases are either keyloggers, or more likely a 'mate' who had access - and no, they never admit that they told anyone the password either...

Well it would help with keyloggers as you're choosing from a drop down list and not typing which means the keylogger shouldn't work.

People out there are scum on the internet that's why you have to protect yourself adequately.
