Battlefield BC2 looking dam sweet

Only problem i see is the ranks and medals will be easy to get... so i cant see this being a long term FPS game like bf2 was!

yeah i agree with the rank and achievements being easier, seems DICE have took some lessons from VALVE(easy achievements eg:L4d1,L4d2)i was hoping for 100s of hours to achieve certain badges ie:bf2
i mean look at this.....

DISTINGUISHED MELEE COMBAT
In a round 5 kills with knives

LoL 5 kills in a round, what happened to the 18 kills for expert knife from Bf2?you can get 5 kills with your eyes shut tbh

I would not say cod4 took over FPS on pc as most players i know still prefered bf2 to cod4,cod4 was no bf2 killer, far from it,cod4 was ok different to bf2 but not as good in any department of gameplay, most people who played these 2 games went back to bf2 after as achieving top rank in cod4 dont take that long and the game becomes boring very quickly with its 1 dimensional infantry play only.Bf2 servers will continue to run for along time yet no matter how good bc2/bf3 is,however cod4 will have its diehard players but i can see it dieing out well before bf2 does.

The big thing here though is that after the still-birth of MW2, much of the CoD community who rolled back to CoD4 is eagerly awaiting something new. At the same time, those still plugging away in the BF2 community are dying for something new too. BC2 has the potential to appeal to both groups and, effectively, bring the PC FPS community back together once more - something not seen since the early days of BF2, or as far back as UT/Q3 days.
Regardless of just how good the PC version is going to be, Dice are releasing Bad Company 2 at a time when they simply can't lose.

I'm hoping that;s just the first tier.

So after you get that you get expert/master melee.

Which you wouldn't see on the awards menu when blanked out as you need the first one for it to replace.

edit bah should have read the list better

ELITE MELEE COMBAT
Kill 500 enemies using the knife

Bc2 on pc and console both use frostbite 2.0

Actually sources point to BC2 using just an improved original Frostbite engine with DX11 extension for PC. Wish I could find a reputable source for this though, I remember reading about it and I think it also Tweeted by some DICE guy at some point. Wikipedia obviously isn't that reliable a source but even there it simply says "Frostbite Engine (with Direct3D 11 extensions)". Only Frostbite engine tweet I found in the last 24 hours was this "Correct. BC2 does not use FB 2.0 That is for future games like BF3 :)" but it wasn't by a DICE employee, I don't think.

Then again, do we know or even care about the differences between improved Frostbite and Frostbite 2.0? Is there even such a thing called 2.0 or is it all just an improved version of the original?

Its frostbite 2.0 as im aware, pretty sure on it,Frostbite 2 enables you to chip away scenery ie:blowing a hole in a wall so u can shoot through it...you can also blow up whole buildings which you could not do in the first game.

About the Game

Battlefield: Bad Company 2™ brings the award-winning Battlefield gameplay to the forefront of PC gaming with best-in-class vehicular combat and unexpected "Battlefield moments." New vehicles like the ATV and a transport helicopter allow for all-new multiplayer tactics on the Battlefield. With the Frostbite-enabled Destruction 2.0 system, you can take down entire buildings and create your own fire points by blasting holes through cover. You can also compete in four-player teams in two squad-only game modes, fighting together to unlock exclusive awards and achievements. Battles are set across expansive maps, each with a different tactical focus. The game also sees the return of the B Company squad in a more mature single-player campaign.

really hyped about this. i don't have time to look through the whole thread - but can anyone confirm as to whether there is a hardcore mode? I much prefer realistic damage in my fps games, especially when it comes to the infantry combat...

Yes, there's an extensive post just on hardcore mode on the last page. Instant kills, no heads up display, no HUD, no kill-cam, and so on.

What’s this Hardcore mode all about, then?
For Hardcore mode, it’ll apply to all four game modes, and it’ll be no kill-cam, friendly fire is on so you can kill your own team-mate accidentally or intentionally, much more realistic damage from weapons… Basically everything will feel much more realistic and it’s focused on those intense moments; it’s going to be do or die and you’ve really got to be on your toes.

There’ll also be a huge reduction in the HUD elements, so no crosshair, so if you want to aim and hopefully you’re not screen dotting, it’ll be really important to use the iron sights. Guys aren’t going to be shooting from the hip; you just can’t in reality. It’s to make it feel like a much more realistic version of Battlefield. We know there’s a group out there, and they may not be biggest but there are guys who want to experience that type of gameplay, especially from a game like Battlefield where you can have vehicles.

Of course, when you do get in a vehicle, all those crosshairs and visual data is built into the game and it’s modelled from reality, just like the guns, so when you bring it up to your eye that’s what you see, and it’s the same in the vehicles. We’re not going to take away things that would make sense in the real world – I guess would be the better way to describe it. There’s nothing that would break that immersion in reality, no enemy icons, no mini-map, and this will also be a ranked game mode.

I seem to remember viewing some video interview about BC2 and they were calling the Engine Frostbite 1.5 ; i.e It had the destructables but not quite up to what BF3 will be..

Anyway 1st time 1 or 1.5 has ever come to PC so looking forward to it ;-)
