So over the weekend I witnessed an accident in the local Morrisons car park, as I was pulling into a space (non P&C one at that :p) I noticed a rather elderly chap in a new-ish 5 series driving rather close to an 09 plate Fiesta.

As he drives off I notice he has a lot of damage down the side of his car and on the wing mirror, I promptly park in the space he had just vacated, and notice the Fiesta now has a lot of silver paint down the side and scratches all over the side.

now I sit in the car and wait to see what the driver does, during this time I get an ear bashing from the missus asking what I'm doing and why don't I just go and get the shopping I need, I explain I wish to make sure he does the right thing and leave his details etc, she gave me a funny look, so off I went. :o

I then proceed to the cash point and notice the driver of the 5 series now walking around the car park looking sheepish, thought sod this and went inside.

So when I came out my other half tells me he had wrote something on a bit of paper and took photos of said car, as well as looking around the car park, licking his fingers and trying to rub the paint off (I found this highly amusing, as did she).

So what would the great OcUK motors collective have done in my shoes? Hung aroundto make sure he does the right thing? Or just cleared off and not gave it another thought? It did create quiet a conversation when I got back as to why I took such an interest in this matter and what would I have done if he didn't leave his details. Too which my reply was go to Morrisons and get the driver of the Fiesta out and give them his number plate.

TL;DR,

I saw a bump in a supermarket carpark and got lambasted by the other half for taking an interest in the other driver leaving his details. :p

I have been in the same kind of position twice at my nearest shopping centre, and have either passed on the details to the security guards, number plate, make and model etc... or left a note on the car... simples.

You did the right thing by leaving your missus in the car. Your quick shop would have turned in to a long, drawn out affair if you'd let her in to Morrisons with you.

I am unfortunately in the postion where someone did a hit and run on my car. Luckily I have two independant witnesses who saw everything and one of them took down the reg plate and left his phone number on my car so I could get all the details off him.

Today I called the police to find out that they have the guy who did it and he has come clean and am awaiting his insurance details.

Without the help of those two witnesses, one of which went out of their way to take down details, I would have had a rather large bill (the car needs a new bumper, side light and drivers side wing). I certainly know the value of people making the effort to come forward in these incidents and will certainly be doing the same if I am a witness to it.

it's happened to me twice and nobody left any note or anything :(

Do the right thing, it's only fair.

Been in the same position and its a no-brainer to do the right thing. Witnessed an oldish chap in a Rover 600 swing into a space and wallop a BMW 1 series. He got out had a look around the car then promptly got back in, reversed out hitting it AGAIN on the way out  before parking in another area of the car-park. I followed him and waited for him to leave the car before taking pictures of his car, his plate details and the details of the BMW he hit. Handed them in at the customer service desk and they called both plates over the tannoy. He claimed he never reaslised he had hit the BMW. I was greeted a week later with an envelope with a thank you letter and some cinema vouchers :D

I have had some muppet hit my car after only a week of owning it, left a sodding great rubber mark down the N/S of the front bumper. No details left but luckily it rubbed off with no other damage.
