Hello all,

i have been looking at getting into Uni at the age of 22 and was wondering what options i have for loans.

I have a mate who is doing courses who is odler than me but hes doing a peace course and is away atm so any help would be great.

The first year is going to cost me £1600 rising over the course for 4 yrs.

I already work full time and earn 17.6K p/y before the tax takes me for a mug:mad:.

Thanks all

Before starting uni in September of last year I was working full time on about £16k or so. I applied for a full loan and grant and managed to get something along the lines of a £3.2k grant and £3.3k loan. I still work part time on about £9k p/a.

you got any links for the company your with?

Might just give them a call and see what they can do

Thanks

Are you going to uni or college, you wont get a student load if you're just doing a college course. If it's uni though it's easy to aquire a fees loan and a maintainance loan and depending upon your uni they may give you some additional support aswell.

Edit: Didnt read properly, you're going to uni.

I'm 22 as well and just completing an Access to HE course at College. If you ask for a non-income assessed application, you'll get 75% of the maximum maintenance loan and you'll get tuition fees paid loan too. I'm not sure how the grant works though.

If like me, you’re still living at home, you can have an income assessed application and you may be eligible for the full maintenance loan.

Check whether you're actually a mature student. I'm pretty sure my Uni qualifies mature students as those entering first year at 23.

Agree. You've got nothing to lose by trying for an assessed loan/grant.

Sure, you have to jump through hoops but it's worth it if you get more money.

Agreed. I completed my online form incorrect and now. As I said I didn't want it income assessed. Now I've got to get my Parents to complete the required forms and send them off. Been moaning at them already to get it done, because they take ages and to make it harder, my Dad is self-employed and therefore doesn't have a standard P60!

thanks all, i tried to register with studentfinanceni but it wont let me log in after reg. Ill give them a toot and see what the craic is.

Cheers

EDIT: ok so i got in and it turns out studentfinanceni will only do the below:
Intensity of Study Maximum Total support available
Equivalent to Less than 60% of the full time course £1065
Equivalent to 60% to 74% of the full time course £1230
Equivalent to 75% or more of the full time course £1470

which to be honest isn't as helpful as i thought. the 1st year is ok i would say but as you progress then it gets costly

Can anyone inform me as to what happens should you apply for finance etc, then decide not to attend Uni?

I assume the finance is only transferred across once Uni has started...?

You take a form to uni in freshers week. They scan a bar code on the letter and a few days later your money comes through.

Do you have to choose which uni you are going to before applying for finance? UCAS still won't let me make a choice and I want to start getting everything else sorted.
