Off to the hospital in 4 weeks, should be able to tell me my blood type. If it turns out to be a rare one, I'll give blood, don't mind needles at all.

This is silly. The none rare types is the stuff they are crying out for mainly O +/-.

O they can give to anybody as long as its the same rhesus type. O neg can be given to anybody regardless of rhesus type.

Didn't realise that. I thought that the rarer ones were most needed, if it turns out that I have any that would be of use, I'll donate.

Its better if you dont have a rare blood group for donation's. They like the O groups beacause they are universal donors. Meaning O type blood can be given safely to any other group.

Everyone thinks because they have got a common blood type they dont need to give which means few people with the common blood types do give, so they are always short of them.

Its settled. I'll ask about doing it next time I go in. Better wait till this course of meds is over though.

O-

I must be a giver, a bit worrying I can only use mine yet everyone can leech mine!

forget rarity, O- is the worst if there is a shortage.

Ive got no idea type blood i have. I had a blood test the other days so i should have asked. :(

They don't tell you, common sense is lacking on the NHS I'm afraid, I've had two tests recently and they said that they don't do blood type checking.

Better than being a reciever .
I'm very immature.... I also laughed aloud at my own joke...
I'm A+ however to contribute to the thread, very common however I don't really want to give blood because it tends to stop me from going to the gym for a day or two =/. Selfish I know, but I'll give blood when I'm not so interested.

O+ve here I got bored one day and was curious about my blood type so went along to a day event and gave blood and done it 10 times now

Bit of a gimpy suggestion but what about a overclockers.co.uk long term giving blood target eg

"Overclocking Blood Supplies To 4Ghz" 4Ghz being 4000pints of blood between everyone here?

They don't tell you your blood type as a deliberate policy, is my understanding. It means ambulance crews etc must perform a blood test, lessening the chances of a concussed/confused etc patient telling them the wrong thing. And if you had a blood test it was for a specific thing, so only that got tested. Anything else costs time and money.

Ambulance crews could simply check the database if blood types were recorded.

As common as they get O+

Next donation will be my 9th on the 8th of Feb :)

Also, those donors that don't already know about it, check out blood donor online https://donor.blood.co.uk/microsite/index.asp it is pretty usefull. Tells you how your blood is used (or what part of the blood). One of my donations was used as whole blood, which usually means an emergency, so maybe a RTA or preggers mum lol.
