I was even advised by the garage just to get 'the oldest tyre' replaced.
How about a tyre price comparison? Seriously.

The amount of BMW X5 cars that have mismatched tyres is unbelievable. If you cant afford to run it, then dont buy it!

I like buying 4 different premium tyres at once, that way i can test the limits off all of them 4 times faster and much more cheaply.

I have always bought 4 but I don't do massive miles, they were pretty old and worn on the rear also.

If its a performance car then i understand as i have one but not a daily runner with 75bhp.

Yea because only performance cars go round corners or need to brake harshly in an emergency situation :confused:

One Roadchamp, one Goodyear something-or-other, my old Mk2 Golf was a treat to drive down a wet Welsh backroad, you could get one wheel to lock and hold a beatiful drift.

Not recommended of course.

Out of interest has there ever been a proper test to show the difference in performance between a car with matching tyres and the same car with 4 same spec tyres but of different brands?

Fifth Gear did one years back - a Renault Clio on premium, budget and mismatched tyres. The difference was quite remarkable.
