I have use of the company van (courier) at weekends and parked in a quiet side street down near the river in Leeds at 3pm this afternoon; on my return a couple of hours later ....... NO VAN *************

I rang the police non emergency line to be told that it had been removed by J D Parking Consultants and their tel' number is 08450582327: I rang the number and was told that they couldn't do anything today and ring back at 8-30am tomorow, the release fee will be £430!!!

The street must be private though it doesn't look any different to the surrounding council ones. On closer inspection, I found a No Parking/Clamping notice about 7ft up a wall that I didn't notice when I parked.

I don't mind paying a reasonable fee but £430 is taking the pee, wouldn't you say?

Don't think that there is anything that I can do except pay up and then have a word with Trading Standards regarding the unreasonable fee.

I hope that there is no damage to the vehicle. :(

Absolutely. You have my sympathy mate.

Clampers are the scum of the earth, I've even had one numpty trying to clamp my truck (with a car calmp I may add) whilst I was delivering to a Tesco store with a marked Tesco trailer.

Thankfully, A: the clamp would not fit my 22.5 inch wheels (!) and B: the store manager came out and told him to **** off.

If you can, pay it with a credit card, gives you a bit of elbow if you need to pursue a "payment under duress" case.

£430 is a "touch" steep. What were the parking/clamping/towing details on the sign?

"Clamping in operation £100 release fee" + the usual blurb .... I suppose they will try to justify the cost by calling a removal truck out on a Sunday; I wouldn't be surprised if they try to up the price for an overnight storage too.

Its completely legal, there's nothing you (or the police) can do about it, and I completely agree with the comments made about clamper's.

As The coffin was slowly being lowerd
into the grave at the funeral of a traffic warden,
a voice screamed, "I'M NOT DEAD,I'M NOT DEAD"
to which the priest smugly answered, "I am sorry my son,
but the paperwork has alread been done!

Another option is to fall back on the hopefully good nature of your company.

Start your explanation with "My wife parked in a quiet back street..." ;)

Take photographs of the sign as it sounds like its been deliberately placed to make seeing it hard.

Get on the phone to the police asap.

Well, paid the £430; they insisted on cash despite their web site saying that thay accept credit/debit cards.

The van had actually been kept in a contract parking compound so if I'd have known where it was I could have followed someone else in and just driven away!

Ah well, won't make that mistake again and I will be asking my MP why this hasn't been banned like it has in Scotland.
