Today marks AMD's release of the next energy efficient 65W TDP processor. It is a socket AM3 processor called the Phenom II X4 910e. It features a 2.6GHz clock frequency, 200MHz bus with a 2000MHz HT link and memory support for both DDR2 (up to 1,066 MT/s) and DDR3 (up to 1,333 MT/s). With specifications like this, this processor is ideal for a Home Theater Personal Computer (HTPC) and any other application where noise, heat, and power consumption are a concern.

Not as good as Intel doesn't by any means make them suck...

over 25% difference some times almost twice as slow depending on the job.

pretty sucky imo, dont see why anyone would choose one of the higher end amd+am3 mobos when you could do i5 750 for almost the same price (unless you want crossfire)

Depending on the job? None gaming things could be anything...

Running an OS
Browsing the web
Listening to music
Word processing
Editing
Encoding

And if you compare it to Intel's offering in the same price range then AMD is nearly always the better choice.

Yep!!

This review is very interesting:

A 2.66GHZ Core i7 920 at stock or a 2.8GHZ Phenom II X4 925 would not be a limitation for an HD5970 at 2560X1600.

This review of the X2 555BE dual core is even more interesting:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/phenom-ii-x2-555,2540-8.html

With an HD5850 all the processors in the second review managed to maintain well over 40FPS at 1920X1200 in the games tested.

Some people are more worried about playing benchmarks it seems.

According to the Steam Hardware Survey around 75% of people registered with Steam are still on single core and dual core processors under 3GHZ:

Steam has around 20 million users AFAIK.

i clearly said non gaming and if your going to get one of the higher end amd chips with one of the higher ends boards that cost over a 100

The 65W Q8200S and Q8400S are over £150 and even the Core i5 661 tends to lose in multi-threaded software to the X4 905E and the latter is around £130 or thereabouts.

It is worth looking at the review comparing the X4 905E and Core i5 661 even though the latter is more expensive and has a higher TDP and is clocked much higher!
