No-one really seems to care about matching tyres here?

Hrm, I personally think a car should have matched tyres. But this isn't even half the problem, it makes me sad when people that spend thousands on their sporty car go out and decide they know better than the manufacturer when it comes to tyres to save a few quid, quite often ruining the balanced setup the manufacturer has created on the tyres supplied with the car.

My ST came with two P-Zero Rossos, and two Avon ZZ5s, I was appalled and will be replacing them with four CS2/3s at the earliest opportunity.

I will be keeping the same make of tyre all round on my car but will not be replacing all 4 at once (£1200) I will do them 2 at a time on the same axel.

All four of mine are the same and cost a small fortune. There's two things I wouldn't really save on and thats tyres and brakes.

You should have 4 tyres that are the same. You should also rotate them so you change all 4 at once.

Tyres work different in cold / wet / heat - you want them all being the same.

Also having different sidewall stiffness (front / to rear) can effect how a vehicle drives on the road.

I'm not refering to performance driving, but braking on the motorway at legal speeds, or coming of a tight motorway slip road.

The reality a lot (but not all) don't care about their car, and it's only in the condition it's in due to MOT. Most people don't even check their tyre presures until they see the tire is flatter, by then it's normally 5-10psi out!

This was my theory, however some people in this thread made me second guess myself.

Moral of the story.

Don't listen to trolls on the internet.

On the FWD car it's true the rear tyres are not working as hard, however there is little weight over that axis, and in wet especially you need good tyres.

5th gear prooved this by fitting worn tyres on the rear of a vehicle, and showed how unstable it was in wet.

I love these threads, so much BS and misinformation, most of it quoted from Top & Fifth Gear.

I'm waiting for someone to insist that you heat your tyres before taking your car out.

I have matching tyres on my fronts and rears. However, my rears will need replacing at very different intervals to my fronts. So, i will often only replace 2. If i can get the same brand/model, I will. However, I think they have been removed from the range now. So i will have mis-matched tyres on front and rear again at some point!
Not something I had ever worried about.

I've just changed all my tyres for Falken FK-452's.

My fronts were at legal level, my rears still had ~5mm tread left. But, on my 4WD VR-4, I didn't want different tyre types front and rear.

Unfortunately, I have different sized tyres front/rear, so I couldn't have swapped them around to even up the wear.

No doubt I'll end up in the same situation again in a year or two once they've been worn down!

Does that include people pulling out in front of you?

Some people in life just like to go against the grain or are incapable or thinking about and appreciating possible outcomes and scenarios.

Given his lack of any credible argument or point of discussion and he seems to have a low word quota for each post i'd say he's a good bet for the block list :)

Do you acknowledge that different makes and models of tyre have different braking distances in both the wet and dry, some tyres take longer to stop than others?
